What's the difference between the ROG GX700 and the GX800?
Some people have the need for a single system that can do anything and holds everything, wherever they go. The concept of the GX700 gave you all the power you need, even when you're on the go and without the liquid-cooling dock. With the same concept, ROG GX800 takes it to the next level. Why buy a desktop and a laptop when you've got one of these?
Big screen gaming
The massive 17.3-in 4K UHD display with G-SYNC on the GX700 has been upsized to an 18.4-inch for your viewing pleasure. When you've got a 4K display, there is the urge to make the most of it.
Moar power!
Both GX800 and GX700 are powered by th Intel Core i7-6820HK, however, while GX700 runs at a maximum at 4GHz (CPU multiplier = 41), GX800 pushes further with a maximum of 4.2GHz (CPU multiplier = 44). The biggest performance boost is from the graphics department, GX800 upgrades the GTX 980 (note this is not the 980M) to two GTX 1080s in SLI. In the 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra benchmark (below), the boost in performance is more than triple!
To handle more power, GX800 is bundled with two 330W power adaptors instead of one (one for the laptop and one for the dock). The connector has also been improved, this is something people often overlook even though it is actually very important (anyone who has had to replace the whole power supply because of the connector would know) especially from a safety standpoint . The new connector (below) is able handle much more current, heat (this is no ordinary laptop boys and girls) and stress, can only be inserted one way and has a locking mechanism to avoid inadvertent disconnections.
Chill out
GX700 changed the game by implementing liquid-cooling in a laptop for the first time ever, GX800 takes the concept to the next level by cooling more components and doing it ever so efficiently to pushing the hardware even harder. Even when there are more components to be cooled, the processor now runs at 4.2GHz (up from 4GHz) and the cooling of the graphics cards had to be modified since there are now two of the most hardcore beasts running in SLI. Fresh coolant coming from the dual radiators goes directly to the processor and the first GPU, the second GPU generally does not require as much cooling and so the coolant is designed to flow past the processor before reaching that.
Speed is everything
What's faster than two high-performance M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs in RAID 0? GX800 has three in RAID 0! Wi-Fi speed can be quoted to be at such and such speed, but it's meaningless if you can't get a good signal, GX800 comes with an external antenna to boost Wi-Fi speed.
The keys to winning
The backlit anti-ghosting keyboard with 30-key rollover technology on the GX700 is upgraded with MechTAG mechanical switches and adds Aura RGB lighting for each individual key.
Ultimate power wherever you go
Nobody looks more serious than the guy who walks in carrying a GX700 in a custom-made suitcase. GX800 allows you to be a bit more discrete if you want to be, an extra backback is included.
