Shamino Hits 1,700MHz GPU With A Radeon HD 7970 And LN2

Shamino has taken the new AMD Radeon HD 7970 3GB graphics card, put it under liquid nitrogen (LN2) and overclocked it to its limits. The end result? Firstly a huge 1,650MHz core frequency was hit, then half a day later 1,700MHz was squeezed out of it! That's a massive 84% increase over stock speed. Running it through a few 3DMark benches, he cracked out nearly 55k in Vantage and a smidge over 15k in 3DMark11, breaking the single GPU worldwide title. Shamino claims this one will be used in a 4-way CrossFireX setup soon, for which we eagerly await the results. Are you getting a HD 7970 for yourself?
