Valve Launches SteamOS, Bringing Linux PC Gaming To The Living Room
After much hype, Valve has finally launched the first version of its new Linux-based SteamOS. In case you were not one of the lucky 300 that managed to get first dibs on beta-testing the Steam Machines, you can now install it on your own PC connected to your HDTV.
Valve's SteamOS is based on Debian, where the hardware requirements include Intel or AMD 64-bit CPU, 4GB or more memory, 500GB of larger HDD, an Nvidia graphics card (AMD and Intel support coming soon), UEFI boot support and USB 2.0 ports. If you're wanting to build your own It definitely looks like a match made in heaven for the Maximus VI Impact and an GeForce GTX 760 DirectCU Mini graphics card for a cool mini-ITX gaming system.
While still in development, Valve's SteamOS is looking good right now, and it definitely might be the start of the revolution which to bring PC gaming into people's living rooms. According to some of the first hands-on reviews, SteamOS is impressive and it is quite clear that Valve has put a lot of effort to make it as smooth and appealing as possible (in complete contrast to most people's opinion of Linux).
