HardOCP Awards ASUS Z87-WS Motherboard Editor's Choice Enthusiast Silver
According to HardOCP.com, the Z87-WS are purpose tuned for the workstation market, with plethora of workstation-class features, ASUS quality manufacturing as well as an overall ease of use and out-of-the-box error free experience. Together this was enough to receive the HardOCP's Editor's Choice Enthusiast Silver Award. As you might expect, a WS is not your average motherboard. Based on the Z87 Express chipset, the ASUS Z87-WS offers a total of 10x SATA 6Gbps ports, one mSATA port and two eSATA ports, a bunch of USB 3.0 ports, a PLX PCI-Express multiplier chip for 4-way SLI and Quad-Crossfire support as well as dual Gigabit Ethernet ports with teaming. Together this feature bundle and reliability testing clearly allows it to differentiate itself from your average Z87 motherboard. HardOCP described it as a motherboard which "exists somewhere between your average gaming motherboard platform and more purpose built workstation boards such as those offered by Tyan and Supermicro. The Z87-WS also exists for those individuals who want a lot of connectivity options but has chosen to stick with a quad core Xeon or standard 4670k or 4770K type CPU. The PLX chip and PCI-Express connectivity is certainly attractive to many users from the gamer to those people who desire expansion capabilities above all else."
