Intel Devils Canyon And Pentium Anniversary Edition CPUs Due Soon
This is tagged as overclocking, because the Haswell refresh just got a lot tastier for us overclocker.
Intel 'Devil's Canyon'
Devil's Canyon is the new code-name for a new unlocked (K-series) CPU exclusively for Intel 9-series motherboards. It will feature:
- Improved an thermal interface between CPU silicon and heatspreader
- Updated CPU packaging (the physical processor, rather than the box it comes in)
- 're-engineering' for better performance and overclocking
What this means exactly is not yet detailed, but it's an tantalizing teaser for enthusiasts considering a 9-series motherboard upgrade. Keep an eye out for that around 'mid-year'.
Intel Pentium Anniversary Edition
For Intel fans, budget overclocking is back! It's over 20 years since the Pentium launched and Intel is celebrating by releasing an unlocked Pentium processor. This one works on existing Z87 and upcoming 9-series motherboards, it has Quick Sync enabled and if we allude it has similar features to existing 'Haswell' Pentiums, expect something like a low-cost, dual core CPU with Intel HD graphics and around 3MB of L3 cache. Intel has not confirmed the details yet, however. It should be a great complement to the Maximus VI Hero, ASUS Z87 motherboards and future 9-series hardware. This Pentium was also unlocked! Anyone else own one?
