ROG Mod By Besi - Part 1

Prepare yourselves for an incredible ROG mod. Professionally planned and executed, by experienced case modder, Marc "Besi" Voser, this ground-up custom design is an astonishing hardcore gaming PC with a Maximus IV GENE-Z at its heart, surrounded by a flowing wave-like surrounding structure that's 45 x 30 x 39.5 cm in size and 15 kilos.

ASUS ROG Mod by Besi

The original design was created around a?high-end Gaming PC, as it?perfectly?fits into ASUS' ROG brand mantra. The colors therefore had to?mimic?the brand as predominantly red and black. The center of attention in the design was the powerful Maximus IV GENE-Z and GeForce GTX 590 from ASUS, in?addition?to 16GB Corsair Dominator GT?DDR3, a ?Corsair Force GT 240GB SSD, a Corsair Gold AX850 PSU?and an Intel Core i7-2600K CPU.

Marc "Besi" Voser didn't want to hide the hardware underneath a shell, so he came up with a design that features a lot of aerodynamically shaped fins, but left enough open space to clearly view the hardware when looking at the right angle.

This high-end hardware is backed up by a serious watercooling kit as well (see ocaholic for the complete list), where the two radiators are designed to fit neatly into the base of the design like engine pods.

3D Modelling and CAD programming

The basic structure was cut from a massive aluminium block into which all the other parts were connected. Dropping in directly onto the block is the Corsair power supply, which was later covered in order to hide all the cables away. Over the power supply sits the Maximus IV GENE-Z tray as well as a small housing for the Corsair SSD. The entire mod is then covered by a few dozen red fins, which will be made of red acrylic, giving the project a very cool and entirely unique shape. Designs that needed doing included the ground plate, fin carrier, connecting?pipes,?motherboard tray, fan bezels, cover for power supply, acrylic fins and the SSD housing.

Next on the agenda is the ROG nose that is part central connection for the fins, as well as statement with the ROG logo embedded, facing outwards.

Mounting the Motherboard Tray

This part of the build was actually quite simple as the motherboard tray consisted of a flat piece of aluminium, with holes drilled in the appropriate places for mounting both itself to the underbody and the motherboard on top of it. Below this the space left would be were the power supply was housed.?

Fan Bezels

Next up time to cut the fan mountings and bezels for the side pods. These two sheets of aluminum cover the heat-exchangers (radiators). which will be installed on both sides of the case.

Anodizing Time!

One advantage of aluminum is that it can be anodized, rather than painted. Anodizing is the process of increases the aluminum oxide layer on the surface, trapping in the colored particles. It has two advantages: it makes it more weather and scratch resistent as the oxide layer is stronger than the metal itself, and also it retains the sexy metallic look. Just one question though, Besi, Y U No Use Red?
