State-of-the-art engineering inside and out
Before diving into each model, let’s look at the upgraded tech and features they have in common, starting with the latest processors.
A new generation of NVIDIA and AMD processors
GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs push gaming further than ever. They’re powered by Ampere, the second generation of NVIDIA’s RTX architecture, which combines new streaming multiprocessors with second-gen RT cores and third-gen Tensor cores to enable the most realistic ray-traced graphics and advanced AI features. These improvements push frame rates to new heights while making visuals more lifelike. They’re backed by support for NVIDIA Reflex technologies that lower latency in select multiplayer games and NVIDIA Broadcast effects that add instant polish to live streams.
AMD Ryzen 9 5000 Series mobile processors are designed to deliver the most immersive laptop gaming experiences. They take the Zen 3 microarchitecture on the road with up to eight cores and 16 threads, leveling up performance with higher instructions per clock, lower cache latency, and numerous other architectural improvements that accelerate workloads from gaming and streaming to 3D rendering and heavy multitasking.
We use HS and HX versions of these new Ryzen CPUs. First available in the original Zephyrus G14, HS processors are tuned for a 35W thermal envelope that brings power-efficient performance to ultra-slim notebooks. Their HX counterparts have a larger 54W thermal envelope that allows them to hit higher speeds in chassis with more cooling capacity. They’re also unlocked, which opens the door to even higher performance with overclocking.
Faster and more beautiful displays
ROG was the first to bring high refresh rates to IPS-level gaming laptop displays, and we’ve continued to push the limits of panel technology ever since. Refresh rates above the 60Hz standard for conventional displays provide a much more fluid and responsive experience. They’re ideal for fast-paced gaming, and once you get used to them, it’s hard to go back.
Our flagship laptop for esports, the Strix SCAR 17, features the world’s fastest notebook display. Its incredible 360Hz refresh rate and 3ms gray-to-gray response time give competitive players an edge, especially in intense tournaments where every millisecond matters.
We’re also bringing more speed to higher resolutions, so you no longer have to choose between smoother gameplay and crisp visuals. The Zephyrus Duo 15 SE redefines premium with a gorgeous 4K panel boasting a 120Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time. The smaller Zephyrus G14 takes its optional WQHD display up to 120Hz, while the Zephyrus G15 and new Strix series push the same resolution to 165Hz.
Adaptive-Sync augments all of our high-refresh panels. It synchronizes the display’s refresh rate with the GPU’s frame rate, enabling a smoother gaming experience that minimizes input lag, reduces stuttering, and eliminates screen tearing.
The Zephyrus family also dials in color accuracy to take on pro-level creative projects. We calibrate displays at the factory to meet stringent Pantone validation requirements, ensuring accurate colors out of the box. Optional wide-gamut panels give creators more hues for print workflows and video color grading. Full coverage of the cinema-grade DCI-P3 gamut is available in the Zephyrus G14 and G15, and the Adobe RGB color space ideal for print work is covered by the Zephyrus Duo 15 SE.
Quieter and more efficient cooling
Efficient cooling is a must to get the best performance and lowest acoustics for compact form factors. We pushed thermal efficiency higher than ever this year, reducing noise levels while gaming by as much as 5 decibels compared to the previous generation.
Our 2021 cooling upgrades begin with liquid metal. Last year, we broke new ground with the first automated process for applying this exotic thermal compound in mass production. We’ve now upgraded that patented process for AMD processors, adding an insulating material that protects the electrically conductive components on the Ryzen CPU package. This is the first time liquid metal has been applied to AMD-powered laptops at scale, and it makes a big difference. CPU temperatures are up to 10° C lower compared to regular thermal paste.
A new Arc Flow fan design maximizes airflow with minimal noise. It builds upon the high-density foundation of our previous n-Blade fans, adding special tips that follow an aerodynamic wave pattern to reduce turbulence. Each of the 84 blades tapers down to just 0.2mm at the base to move more air, and they’re made of a liquid-crystal polymer strong enough to maintain its structure at high speeds. The updated shape and tapered profile improve airflow by up to 35% for the CPU and 21% for the GPU without increasing noise levels. With 0dB Technology, the fans switch off completely when CPU and GPU temperatures are low in the Silent operating mode. This makes cooling truly silent under light workloads.
To increase airflow further, we’ve improved our self-cleaning cooling system. Dust accumulation on the heatsinks and fans slowly compromises cooling, so ROG laptops channel particles away from those components to ensure reliable performance over time. Shorter anti-dust tunnels in the latest models clear the way for 15% more airflow while still preventing harmful buildup.
These innovations are driven by an Intelligent Cooling philosophy that allows us to achieve industry-leading thermal performance. We use extensive heat spreaders and large heat pipes to redistribute thermal energy from the CPU, GPU, VRAM, and voltage regulation circuitry toward multiple heatsinks. Our heatsinks have ultra-thin copper fins as slim as 0.1mm, providing greater surface area and lower air resistance. And almost every laptop has four heatsinks, each one next to its own fan outlet to pump heat out of the system faster. Even the ultra-compact Flow X13 features three heatsinks and fan outlets, more than usual for such a small machine.
You can easily adapt cooling and performance to suit your needs with ROG Armoury Crate software. Silent, Performance, and Turbo operating modes tune system power, clocks, and fan speeds to balance acoustics and speed. Switch modes on the fly with a keyboard shortcut or use Scenario Profiles to trigger your preferred mode automatically when launching specific games and apps. Scenario Profiles can also change lighting effects and other system settings to optimize your experience more broadly.
Clearer, more immersive audio
Quieter cooling helps you appreciate the audio improvements in our latest laptops. Their clear, true-to-life sound makes gaming even more immersive.
All 2021 ROG gaming laptops support Dolby Atmos technology, which uses optimized audio processing algorithms to deliver fuller, clearer sound from the built-in speakers. Atmos also enables virtual 5.1.2-channel output that simulates a surround-sound setup with precise, layered audio that can be tuned with presets for movies and games. You can use this mode with headphones and headsets, too, putting you right in the middle of the action.
Two-Way AI Noise Cancelation delivers clearer audio recording and voice chat across all of our new notebooks. Developed using an advanced neural network, this technology eliminates up to 95% of background noise with super high accuracy. It can be applied to any mic and configured on a per-app basis, so you can target chat software while preserving in-game sound. The two-way filtering is especially handy, processing output audio to help you hear your teammates better. And because noise canceling runs on the CPU, the GPU is free to hit higher FPS.
Next-level mobility
This latest collection of ROG gaming laptops is our most powerful to date, yet the individual models are more mobile than their predecessors.
We’ve gone smaller than ever with the first 13” ROG laptop, the Flow X13, which has an ultraportable convertible form factor. The updated Zephyrus G15 shrinks its footprint by 5% and loses 200 grams of weight. And our new Strix laptops feature a redesigned chassis with a footprint up to 7% smaller than the previous generation. They’re also available with up to a 90Wh battery that’s a big step up from last year’s 66Wh unit.
The entire lineup supports fast charging, so you can top up and get back on the road faster than ever. Thanks to a new battery cell design and support for higher currents, charging from 0% to 50% takes as little as 33 minutes.
ROG was the first to introduce USB Type-C charging to gaming laptops back in 2018. Now, all of our new models can use Type-C power up to 100W. That makes it easy to lighten your load with a smaller USB adapter that works with all your devices, though the standard AC adapter is still required for full performance. Charging from Type-C power packs really extends your range, so you can spend more time on the move and less tethered to the wall.
Meet the new ROG gaming laptops
Defy expectations with the Flow X13
The first 13” ROG laptop is also our most versatile to date, pairing the technology to handle serious gaming and creativity with thoughtful conveniences that enhance your everyday experience.
The Flow X13 goes anywhere with an ultra-slim and ultra-light body that’s only 15.8mm and 1.3kg. Its 360° hinge transforms the system in an instant. Flip into tent mode to fit into tight spaces, share the screen easily in stand mode, or use tablet mode with an optional stylus to let your creativity flow. The touchscreen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and comes with a choice of 4K UHD or 120Hz FHD panels that complete the experience with either ultra-crisp detail or smoother gaming.
Despite the compact form factor, there’s plenty of speed with up to a Ryzen 9 5900HS processor and GeForce GTX 1650 GPU. Fitting them into such a small system required several adjustments, including reorganizing the internal layout to accommodate more cooling, flattening the heatpipes to occupy less space, and switching to LPDRR4X memory that saves power and frees up motherboard area for the GPU.
For situations that require more graphics performance, we thought outside the box. The optional XG Mobile integrates a GeForce RTX 3080 laptop GPU, extra connectivity, and a 280W power adapter into an ultraportable chassis that’s just 6% of the size of a typical external GPU. Vapor chamber cooling helps the GPU clock up to 1810MHz at 150W with ROG Boost. The additional I/O includes USB, Ethernet, an SD reader, and multiple display outputs that let you drive a complete battlestation on the go. And because the 280W adapter supplies both the XG Mobile and the Flow X13, there’s no need to weigh down your backpack with an extra charger.
We developed an exclusive interface to avoid the bottlenecks that limit traditional eGPUs. It connects the CPU directly to the GPU over a PCI Express® 3.0 x8 link with much higher bandwidth than Thunderbolt. All the I/O goes through a parallel USB 3.2 Gen 2 connection, so traffic doesn’t eat into the bandwidth reserved for the GPU.
Our designers created an original aesthetic that ties the Flow X13 and XG Mobile together. Dubbed Gravity Wave, this visual style covers both devices with textured diagonal lines, giving them a unique look and adding extra grip for easy carrying.
The Flow X13 provides unprecedented flexibility with a convertible design that lets you go anywhere and do anything, and a matching XG Mobile that further transforms your experience on the move. Look for the special Flow X13 Supernova Edition powered by AMD’s Ryzen 9 5980HS processor, which offers even higher performance. And stay tuned for new GPU options in the near future.

The ultimate esports laptops: the Strix SCAR 15 and 17
For esports players and hardcore gamers who want an uncompromising experience, the new Strix SCAR 15 and 17 shave off precious milliseconds in tight matches where the margin of victory comes down to the blink of an eye. These reimagined designs pack a serious punch.
The SCAR 17 introduces the world’s fastest laptop display, with a stratospheric 360Hz refresh rate and a gray-to-gray response time of just 3ms. This 17” panel provides unmatched fluidity and clarity at esports speed. For the SCAR 15, we use the fastest 15” display available: a 300Hz panel with a 3ms response time that still clocks higher than most desktop monitors. Gamers who want more visual detail can select an optional WQHD panel with a 165Hz refresh rate and DCI-P3 color gamut. And for the first time in ROG Strix gaming laptops, all of these displays support Adaptive-Sync variable refresh rate technology.
Next-gen silicon up to a Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU and GeForce RTX 3080 GPU feed these displays with higher FPS than ever, and our new cooling technology and VRM design allow for top performance. The CPU runs on up to 54W of sustained power when the GPU is active and 80W on its own. It’s also unlocked, so you can push for higher speeds with overclocking. And the RTX 3080 GPU clocks up to 1645MHz at 115W with ROG Boost, while Dynamic Boost puts another 15W on tap.
The keyboard is faster than ever with optical mechanical switches—the first in an ROG laptop. These switches trigger by breaking a beam of light, providing the consistent and near-instantaneous response that esports players crave, and they’re durable enough to withstand 100 million presses.
These improvements to performance and responsiveness are wrapped in a stylish design that elevates both function and form, with touches echoing athletic apparel.
Display bezels as thin as 4.5mm increase the screen-to-body ratio up to 87%. Our new touchpad has an 85% bigger active area than last year’s model, and it’s topped with a matte glass surface that provides optimal smoothness and control. The soft-touch finish on the palm rest adds comfort and grip in tense matches, while larger rubber feet keep the laptop firmly planted. And a translucent section slashed across the keyboard deck hints at the hardware inside.
Customization is big part of the new design. The SCAR 15 and 17 ship with Armor Caps in Rubber Grey, Translucent Black, and Spangle Silver that can be swapped in an instant to personalize the chassis, and we provide a 3D printer source file so you can create your own designs. A higher-density LED bar glows around the front edge of the chassis. It complements a new companion strip that slices strategically under the screen and a glowing ROG logo that shows your colors on the lid. The keyboard also features per-key control that lets you highlight critical commands for different games. All the RGB accents are fully customizable, and Aura Sync makes it easy to synchronize colors and effects with compatible peripherals.
Despite extensive upgrades, these are our most mobile SCAR laptops to date, with smaller footprints than the last generation and a bigger, 90Wh battery capable of lasting through 12.2 hours of video playback.
