Gorgeous inside and out: Meet the 2024 Zephyrus G14 and Zephyrus G16
The Zephyrus family of gaming laptops have always pushed the bleeding edge of performance and lightweight portability. Our 2024 Zephyrus G14 and Zephyrus G16 elevate that standard even higher, thanks to a completely redesigned and CNC-machined chassis and the introduction of the first-ever G-SYNC capable OLED display on a gaming laptop. These thin-and-light, ultraportable laptops are the perfect options for gamers and content creators that need a gaming laptop that can travel with them anywhere. Let’s dive in and see exactly what makes these laptops so special.
The Zephyrus G14 and G16 start with All-aluminum luxury
The redesign of the 2024 Zephyrus G14 and G16 begins with a CNC-machined chassis, which freed us to alter the keyboard deck to an edge-to-edge design, complete with a larger trackpad, keycaps, trackpad, and speakers. This allowed us to make the speakers louder than the previous gen, with a superior bass response down to 100Hz for more immersive audio experiences. An upsized 16:10 glass-topped trackpad perfectly matches the 16:10 aspect ratio of the laptop’s displays, allowing for precise movement and effortless scrolling. And while many compact laptops squeeze their keys together, this precise CNC milling process allowed us to keep the keyboard large, with key spacing of 1.7mm for comfortable typing. The key travel is also 1.7mm deep, giving you a high-class typing experience despite the laptops’ ultra-compact chassis.
These premium gaming laptops are carved out of aluminum alloy, a material that’s so light, rigid, and luxurious after anodization that we knew it would be perfect for our Zephyrus machines. This year also introduces a brand-new colorway, Platinum White, to give the G14 and G16 a lustrous sheen just like the metal it’s named after. It took us two years of research and development to nail the premium, matte metallic finish we were looking for, with hundreds of tests on numerous different combinations. It takes the beautiful, clean look of our previous Moonlight White design and gives it the perfect metallic luster.
These gaming laptops also introduce the brand-new Slash Lighting array to the Zephyrus family. This LED array makes a bold slash across the lid of the machines, and comes with both custom animations and the ability to create your own, for a truly unique flair that sets these machines apart from any other laptop in the room.
The G14 and G16 embody the true essence of Zephyrus: thin-and-light yet ultra-powerful laptops. Coming in at just 1.59cm thick and only 1.5kg, the Zephyrus G14 easily slips into small bags and will never weigh you down when you’re traveling. Despite having a two-inch larger display, the G16 is slimmer than the G14 at just 1.49cm thick and only weighs 1.85kg, giving you space for your creative workflow when on the move, with minimal bulk.
OLED gaming laptops with G-SYNC have arrived
A machine this premium deserves a premium display. OLED monitors have been making a splash on the desktop market for a few years now, but we’re finally proud to introduce our first gaming laptop with a Nebula Display featuring an OLED panel. Since OLED allows for pixel-perfect black levels, your games and other content will look better than ever, popping off the screen with unbelievable contrast and color. But there’s more: after years of research and development and a close partnership with NVIDIA and Samsung Display, we’re also able to announce that these are the first OLED gaming laptops with NVIDIA G-SYNC.
Full G-SYNC support means that these displays offer incredible motion clarity even if your framerates momentarily dip, an incredibly necessary feature for any gaming machine. While common on gaming laptop displays, G-SYNC on a laptop OLED panel was a technical hurdle that our partnership with NVIDIA and Samsung Display helped overcome, bringing the vibrance and gorgeous visuals of OLED with this must-have gaming feature.
The Zephyrus G14 boasts a 3K resolution 120Hz panel, with the Zephyrus G16 sporting a 2.5K 240Hz panel for the perfect mix of visual fidelity and motion clarity. Both options feature an aspect ratio of 16:10, a VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, and a stunning 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. With the true inky blacks of an OLED pixel, HDR content and games can truly shine. The displays also boast 100% coverage of the cinema-grade DCI-P3 color space and are calibrated to achieve an average ΔE a of less than 1, making these gaming panels equally capable as the primary screen for content creators who demand color accuracy in their work. For gamers, the incredibly fast 0.2ms gray-to-gray response time virtually eliminates ghosting and provides the cleanest image possible with every refresh of the screen.
Flagship performance in a compact package
With up to an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS processor, up to 32GB of LPDDR5X-6400 memory, and up to 1TB of PCIe Gen4 storage, the Zephyrus G14 can game, create, and multitask with ease. The G14 features up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU with a max TGP of 90W, with access to advanced features like DLSS 3.5, Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction for immersive visuals in modern games. The latest hardware also means the latest features, and in 2024, that means hardware-accelerated AI: The AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS sports 16 TOPS of AI performance, with support for both AMD Ryzen AI and Windows Studio Effects. This readies the Zephyrus G14 for the future with access to productivity tools like automatic framing, eye contact correction, and advanced background effects in video calls.
NVIDIA’s latest GPUs stand ready for AI-powered tasks as well: with dedicated AI support for tools like Omniverse and Stable diffusion, you can skip long queues in the cloud and generate images locally in just a few seconds. Traditional video editing and 3D rendering projects also benefit, sometimes more than twice as fast with AI acceleration, all while consuming less power for longer battery life.
The Zephyrus G16, by contrast, sports up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 Processor 185H, up to 32GB of LPDDR5X-7467 memory, and up to 2TB of PCIe Gen4 storage. Backed up by the flagship NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU, the G16 boasts incredible performance in the latest games and creative applications, AI-powered and otherwise.
Keep your cool in every scenario
Smaller and thinner lighter laptops boasting flagship hardware demand hyper-efficient cooling solutions, so both the Zephyrus G14 and G16 have been updated with the very latest Intelligent Cooling technologies to maintain their competitive edge. Both gaming laptop feature high performance liquid metal on the CPU, as well as brand-new 2nd Generation Arc Flow Fans. The fans have been redesigned to add small bends at the each of the 84 primary blades to reduce both power consumption and turbulence. They also feature a dual-impeller design, with a smaller set of 42 fan blades inside the primary set that allow more air to be sucked in with each rotation, similar to a jet turbine. State of the art cooling allows us to match these svelte designs with enthusiast grade gaming hardware.
In addition to these new Arc Flow Fans, both the G14 and G16 feature a tri-fan design. A smaller auxiliary fan assists the main Arc Flow Fans and reduces surface component temperatures inside the machine, as well as helping to route GPU heat to the heatsinks. The heatpipes themselves have also been revamped, and now feature a fiber and mesh composition that increases efficiency by 23% compared to the previous generation. On the Zephyrus G16 models equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 and 4090 Laptop GPU, we upgraded the cooling system to a custom vapor chamber with dual fans to keep these powerhouse GPUs in line.
The future of ultraportable gaming
The 2024 Zephyrus G14 and Zephyrus G16 have raised the bar for performance and design for thin-and-light gaming laptops. Equipped with the latest AI-accelerated silicon, cooling improvements, and ROG’s first OLED gaming displays, these laptops are the perfect machines for gamers and content creators alike.
