GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER graphics cards from ROG and ASUS power up Full HD gaming

Oct 30, 2019 Written by:ROG Article

Check out the latest Steam hardware survey, and you’ll find the vast majority of gamers still play on 1920x1080 monitors. Even at that resolution, neither AAA games nor high-refresh-rate esports titles are getting any less challenging to run as time goes on. We can always use more power to hold the 60 FPS line in graphically demanding titles or push as many frames as possible in the hyper-competitive world of esports gaming. To sate the eternal hunger for more performance among mainstream gamers, NVIDIA is supercharging its most attainable Turing cards with two new entries in the GeForce® SUPER™ family: the GTX 1660 SUPER and the GTX 1650 SUPER.

GTX1660-Super_KV

The GTX 1660 SUPER takes a balanced approach to deliver a nice performance increase over its predecessor. 1408 Turing CUDA cores pair up with 6GB of GDDR6 memory running at a 14Gbps transfer rate. More memory bandwidth is undeniably a good thing for GPU performance, and you can expect up to 20% higher performance from the GTX 1660 SUPER versus its forebear. The high clock speeds and beefy cooling we’re delivering on the majority of our GTX 1660 SUPER cards bodes well for gamers hungry for more frames.

The GTX 1650 SUPER gives the GTX 1650 a major boost of its own. You’ll find more Turing CUDA cores than before—1280 versus 896—and 4GB of next-generation GDDR6 RAM running at 12Gbps for a big boost in memory bandwidth over the GTX 1650’s GDDR5. Those changes add up to as much as 50% higher performance from the GeForce GTX 1650, making the SUPER card a potent weapon for gamers upgrading their PCs to handle the latest AAA and high-refresh-rate titles on the market today.

To let the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER power up PCs of all shapes and sizes, we’ve built a broad range of new graphics cards across the ROG Strix, TUF Gaming, Dual, and Phoenix families.

Enthusiasts seeking the best gaming experience need look no further than the ROG Strix GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER. Dual GTX 1660 SUPER EVO cards fuse our latest Axial-tech fan design with a PCB that easily slots into mainstream builds. The TUF Gaming GTX 1660 SUPER comes in two-fan and three-fan variants to deliver the performance you want with rock-solid durability and subtle style, while TUF Gaming GTX 1650 SUPER cards rely on twin fans to deliver both effective cooling and maximum compatibility. Finally, our Phoenix GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER cards use a single fan to put Turing power into the smallest PCs around.

The ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER give you a first-class ticket to the podium

ROG Strix graphics cards are renowned for their potent blend of high performance, quiet operation, and optimal cooling capabilities, and we’ve fused that DNA with the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER to make these cards the continuing choice of champions.

rogstrix-2d-fans

Good cooling starts with good fans, and our latest Axial-tech spinners use small hubs, a smoothly swept and high-density blade design, and a special restrictor ring around the tips of the blades to direct air that would otherwise be laterally dispersed into the heatsink’s fin array. The DirectCU II heatsink itself features a pair of massive copper heat pipes that make direct contact with the GPU to transfer heat away from the chip and into dense arrays of fins.

Our engineers didn’t stop thinking about cooling at the graphics card itself. Motherboard fan control logic often relies on CPU temperature as the primary signal of system load, but the CPU is rarely the greatest source of heat in a PC while gaming. Because of this limitation, your case fans might be left running near idle while your graphics card sweats during a game.

rogstrix-3d-front

To prevent this potentially sticky situation, the ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER include a single FanConnect II header on the front edge of their PCBs. This four-pin fan header lets you extend the graphics card’s onboard fan control logic to a case fan of your choosing. You can rest assured that when GPU temperatures rise, fresh air will always be available to the graphics card to maximize performance.

A dual-mode BIOS switch is the final jewel in the ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER’s cooling crown. This switch lets you choose between a Quiet Mode that offers a 0dB fan stop mode for silence at idle and a Performance Mode that keeps the air flowing at all times for the best cooling in hot climates or under heavy overclocks.

rogstrix-2d-back

Of course, the ROG Strix incorporates the Republic of Gamers’ traditional angular styling cues and RGB LED accents to broadcast your allegiance to the world. We balance form and function by integrating a reinforcing frame into the card’s heatsink that mitigates unsightly GPU sag. An aluminum backplate provides both reinforcement and a canvas for us to display a prominent ROG logo. If you want to run in stealth mode, a dedicated button on the card turns out the lights.

ASUS Dual GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER EVO cards use height to their advantage

Urban planners going for density follow a simple formula: when you can’t build out, you build up. The ASUS Dual GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER EVO takes this philosophy and flies with it.

dualevo-2d-front

As we began building the Dual GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER EVO, our engineers selected two of our latest and greatest Axial-tech fans for their ideal airflow characteristics. They then directed those fans’ airflow through a 2.7-slot-tall heatsink featuring DirectCU II heatpipe technology for better thermal transfer from the GPU die into the fin stack.

dualevo-3d-side

The extra-tall heatsink gives you better performance potential for both stock and overclocked settings, and when the Dual GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER EVO isn’t under heavy load, its duo of Axial-tech fans can stop entirely at idle to minimize system noise.

The Dual GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER EVO comes dressed mostly in black, but we couldn’t resist adding a subtle RGB LED strip to the side of the card for a touch of flair. An aluminum backplate covers the entire surface area of the top of the PCB, preventing GPU sag and damage to delicate surface-mounted components. A stringent 144-hour validation program and Auto-Extreme assembly processes mean the Dual GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER EVO comes out of the box ready to perform at its best.

TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER cards stand ready for every adventure

TUF Gaming graphics cards are built to look good and keep on ticking, no matter what challenges your gaming PC encounters. For the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER, our engineers TUF-ened up two basic types of graphics cards for PCs big and small.

TUFX3-2D-front

The TUF Gaming X3 GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER is made for PC builders with an appetite for performance and cases with plenty of room inside. Three fans blow down on a DirectCU III heatsink. The heatpipes running through that fin stack make direct contact with the GPU die for better heat transfer, lower temperatures, and ultimately higher performance potential.

TUF3-3D-side-alt

In keeping with the TUF nameplate, we built each of those three fans to IP5X dust-resistance standards. No matter how dusty the inside of your PC gets, debris won’t work its way into the fan housings and cause premature failure. Sleeve bearings packed with a space-grade lubricant make these fans as durable as dual ball bearing models while delivering better acoustic performance. A muscular shroud with a subtle RGB LED slash teams up with a full-coverage backplate for the ideal blend of durability and style.

TUF3-3D-back

Not every PC can swallow the TUF Gaming X3’s beefy cooler and shroud, so we drew up a twin-fan model that can fit into more cases without sacrificing the durability and reliability of its bigger brother.

TUF2-2D-front

The TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER use a pair of dust-resistant fans blowing over a compact DirectCU II heatsink to move heat away from the GPU, and the entire card is reinforced by a backplate to prevent flex and damage to surface-mounted components.

TUF2-3D-side

Those who like to keep it simple will be pleased by the TUF Gaming GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER’s RGB LED-less shroud, but TUF graphics on the side and backplate of the card still offer a healthy dose of style.

TUF2-2D-back

All TUF models benefit from a strict 144-hour validation program and the precision of our Auto-Extreme assembly technology. We also test TUF Gaming cards with components from other members of the TUF Gaming Alliance to ensure that these parts not only look great together but also work well as a team.

ASUS Phoenix GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER cards are the perfect fit for small PCs

If you’re among the growing number of PC builders choosing a Mini-ITX motherboard as the basis for your next system build, you know that every cubic centimeter counts. Choose the wrong components, and you run the risk of not being able to complete your PC at all. To let every builder take advantage of the performance of the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER, our Phoenix series rises to the challenge with the shortest PCBs and the most compact cooler shrouds you’ll find in our lineup.

PH-3D-rear

The single Wing-blade fan on our Phoenix GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER cards is a proven design that’s graced many of our top-tier GPUs of the recent past. Drooped tips on the edge of each fan blade reduce drag, and dual ball bearings inside each fan hub ensure a long life. We further extend the life of the Phoenix cards’ Wing-blade fans with an IP5X-certified housing that prevents dust from infiltrating the delicate innards of the fan and saves you the trouble of having to deep-clean your graphics card for reliable operation.

PH-2D-top

The cooler shroud itself stays well within a standard two-slot footprint for maximum compatibility, and the edge of the PCB extends only slightly beyond the edge of the support bracket to accommodate the diameter of the Wing-blade fan itself. Those reassuring dimensions, combined with the performance and reliability you expect from our graphics cards, make the Phoenix series a perfect fit for your next build.
