View Full Version : LCD Ribbon Cable Mishap during Re-paste

So I successfully disassembled my G73jh-rbbx; the Best Buy one with the 1600x900 screen; and performed a thermal re-paste on the gpu due to idle temps > 67C and continuing problems with GSOD even after the vBios update and Bios 211. All went very well until reassembly when I screwed the rear bezel back on... and right through the LCD ribbon cable! Well, the cable is toast and I'm having a hard time finding a replacement cable. I've checked: screencountry.com, batterycentury.com, and batterystyle.com and while they all sell LCD ribbon cable replacements for ASUS machines; I can't find one specifically for the G73JH. I was wondering if anyone knew of a replacement part number or site or link where I could order one. Typing this with my G73 connected via VGA to an old CRT screen! On the plus side my idle GPU temp is now 55C. At least I did something right! Thanks for any advice from this fine community.

Well, you could try and slice her back together with some solder and electrical tape. Or you can upgrade your 900p panel to a Full HD 1080p. They're about $110 online.

I wouldn't try to RMA it, because that one would be hard to explain.

Talking about screen could we possible change the G73JH screen for the LED one of the G73JW ?

The JH and JW both have 1920X1080 LED back lit LCD panels as far as I know. Are you talking about the 3D model perhaps with the 120Hz panel?

The full 1080p panel is very tempting... and only about $140.00 from what I've seen. The biggest problem is that I'd need the ribbon cable for that one too and from what I've found it's out of stock everywhere I can find it! The part number listed on the cable itself that I broke is: 1422-00Q00ASA521KS000849. It seems to be available at retailers online as part number: 1422-00PQ0AS; but out of stock at the 4 online places I've been able to find. (although they seem to be all the same company with different front-end websites!) Anyone know of a different part number designation that might turn up any more results? I contacted ASUS support but got a canned response about RMA'ing the machine. Would they sell me the ribbon cable directly?

I would suggest calling some of the boutique retailers, like PowerNotebooks, or GenTech PC, and see if they will sell you one.

Well, talked to probably the nicest woman in any computer sales dept. anywhere at PowerNotebooks and she says the same as Gentech and ExoticPCs; that they will not sell parts to you if you didn't buy the system from them. The 4 sellers I've found on-line that carry the ribbon cable; (which are actually two companies with 2 different websites each) both are out of stock with unknown restock times. I've PMed several of the ASUS reps that keep up with things in here, so I guess I'll just hope for the best with them. Sad that my notebook is no longer portable; but I did play a few hours of SC2 today with no GSODs and the TS0, 1, 2 sensors never topped 95C. Previously they would top 105C. Thanks for all the advice everyone. BTW, even the AOU 1600x900 screen blows this 20" CRT from 10 years ago out of the water!

What about these guys: http://www.asusparts.eu/index.php?cPath=67674_73347_158847_158848_158875

I bought a second hard drive caddy from them. It took a couple of weeks to get it. Shipping takes a while. They may have the part you need.

I think it may be! The part numbers are all wrong but it is an AUO screen. I just sent them an email to make sure but I think you've done it. Thank you Jody and Chastity. Great price too... before the 20 euro shipping that is!

if you need parts and you were a customer they should be free. if you are not a customer then they cost 75-100$ per any chasis part, cable, fans, small parts, random parts. anything but the obvious, lcd, mainbd.
