I guess you didn't detect the facetiousness in my font... or the model I own in my signature! ;>{)>

Seriously - When you buy complex electronic gadgets like laptops these days, you do want to protect yourself against the possibility of a defective product. See this thread: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?9956-Thinking-of-joining-you-all..

and pay attention to this post: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?9956-Thinking-of-joining-you-all..&p=67178&viewfull=1#post67178

I think we ought to swap residences while you're testing out your new system. You could come to the sunny, fun-filled desert of Arizona, and I could take your place on your dreary, humid Caribbean island...

I'm quite happy with my G74SX-A1. Here's a picture of me the day after delivery...

Got ya! Jest kiddin' again...

So do your testing ASAP after you get YOUR G74SX. You don't want to end up like that guy!

First post! I, too, got suckered by TigerDirect and their sweet sweet 18 month interest-free financing. But I knew I wanted a new Asus laptop for awhile--they're all I buy these days--so I figured this was a good time to pick one up.

The only thing that concerned me was the memory--500 GB can be eaten up fairly quickly if you're doing a lot of stuff. I did buy a 128 GB Crucial SSD to go with it, since I've heard people use those for the OS and then put everything else on the regular hard drive. But can both drives be built into the laptop simultaneously, or do I need to run the 500 GB drive in an external enclosure? (Apologies for noob question, I rarely mess around with the guts of my PCs.)

EDIT: Just to not be a total noob--I did use the search function for my question and this thread looks helpful:

Check out this thread: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?10013-Need-Help-With-Finding-The-Correct-SATA-Cable-For-G74SX-Internal-HDD

The G Series laptops have 2 drive bays. If you've purchased a system with a single HDD, the drive caddy and SATA board/cable for the 2nd HDD are usually (but not always) somewhere in the box.

 With that price, I could have bought two G74!.. I spent $2400 (delivery + customs duty included) on mine last year.

@chrsplmr : If you're buying this, make sure you place it in another room.

Yea, especially if you're like me doing HD home movies and 20-25mb raw photo(Nikon d7000) files.

Nice price on the laptop though.

I overlooked tigerdirect because I love amazon's policy's that and one time they sent me a projector by mistake when i ordered a pc case for a client. other than that it does look like a good deal. IF you need space I'd recommend the model I have with dual 750 hard drives (its a beast!). I'm looking at 2 upgrades....one being another 4 gigs of ram and a solid state drive.

Hmm...sounds like a killer deal. I've been looking at the NH71 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230142) @ Newegg - I can' really tell any differences, save for 2630QM vs 2670QM processors. Not too sure about TigerDirect though.

Yah, that's why I figured I'd go with the OS on the SSD option since it'll be (theoretically) easy to swap out that 500 GB drive and not have to reinstall everything. 500 GB is what I have on my current gaming desktop and I think I've used 4/5ths of it just on my hideous Steam backlog and other PC sale titles. I mean, you can always reinstall a Steam title, but then you have to re-download it and until my area gets FIOSed up that's going to take awhile.

First impression: HOLY COW THIS THING IS HUGE.

First project: getting the SSD working and the OS on it. Hopefully I can puzzle my way through it, with the help of the existing threads on the topic.

No issues thus far! Did a clean Win 7 install with the download in the How To thread, works fine so far. Just updating the drivers and such (thanks to the links, again, in that very useful How To thread.)

Now I just need to decide on a good game to break it in with. Steam has a weekend deal on Saints Row: The Third...

i am eyeing a ZenBook ... ... they have little or No issues .. but out of stock ... and im also
weighing that against the potential for a V Extreme and that 4.2 ..... yummy yummy yummy...

I think I shall jump into the ROG with this tiger direct sale. Was debating getting this or waiting for a G75, but the price is very nice and saves me from spending too much on a G75.

I'll add 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD that will push the price up to $1400.

Black Friday is still on. I bought mine the other day from tigerdirect.com for $1199.00. If you check from day to day it will vary from $1199.00 to $1299.00. Wait it out. It's worth the wait.
