View Full Version : My 1st Gaming laptop

After doing weeks of research for a gaming laptop .... I bought the asus G74SX-XT1 from tigerdirect

Which is currently on sale… THANK GOD!! I was between this model and the other one with the i7-2670QM processor

I`m looking to upgrade to Seagate ST750LX003 Momentus XT 750GB as my primary drive but not to sure about the memory as from reading through the forums I see some guys having issues with some high end memory so I’m not too sure what to do memory wise.. Any suggestions would be thankful

Also i`m looking to do a clean install once I get it….i don’t trust computers that comes with software already install 

Any suggestions on what to install? And don’t install?

Just stick with the Brody Stability Principle and you can't go wrong! That is "The stability of a given Windows 7 system is inversely proportional to the number of ASUS applications installed."

Ok cool well the only thing i will install from asus is drivers... also

would i need to apply this : G74SX Keyboard Issues? ATK 1.0.00010 / BIOS 202 Available

and i have already bookmarked this page : G73/74/53 Series Driver and Application Reference

anything else?

Take a look at this thread for G74SX drivers: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?5224-Drivers-Apps-and-How-to-s It is more up to date for the G74SX systems.

You will want to install the latest ASUS 1.0.0014 ATK Package to get all the function keys working. I happen to like the ASUS Ai Charger Plus utility to allow me to charge my cell phone from the laptop battery even when it's shut down.

If there are other ASUS apps you find useful, you can still download them from the ASUS web site.

Check your System Information for the BIOS installed on your system. Some of the new G74SX models are shipping with the latest BIOS 203. If you do need to upgrade your BIOS (probably only if it's version 201), see http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?11080-BrodyBoy-simple-but-effective-.pdf-guide.-on-quot-Updating-The-G74SX-BIOS-with-EazyFlash-quot for the best chance of a problem-free BIOS flash.

What is the "BIOS Version/Date" in System Information?

This is what i have

So you have the 201 version BIOS. If you are experiencing keyboard lag and missed keystrokes, an upgrade to version 203 could help.

ok thanks also is this corrent 12gb of memory lock @ this speed?6381

03-01-2012, 09:52 AM
why is this not running @ 1333Mhz?

03-01-2012, 03:17 PM
does anyone have any idea why it is saying that?

03-01-2012, 05:52 PM
why is this not running @ 1333Mhz?
Because it's the same values
665 real=1333 effective

I was never much of an overclocker, but isn't it DRAM frequency x FSB? So his "real" number would be 997Mhz?

beeen doing some research and found this

PU-Z shows the real clock speed of your memory, not the effective clock speed. DDR means Double Data Rate (two transactions per clock cycle). So 665 MHz actually means 2 x 665 MHz ~ DDR3-1330 MHz [~DDR3-1333 MHz].

so i guess i`m ok??

Well.... Your laptop's memory is OK, anyway.... ;>{)>

Good research!

anyway i played the following games for couple hours on it so far and it works without a hitch

Battlefield 3
Call Of Duty MW3
Mass Effect 3 demo
Deus Ex

even had two games open @ the same time and still no issues.. most i would do is install a Hybrid drive\SSD so my windows can boot faster and
games load faster...the built-in webcam is decent did a skype call.

other than that i`m happy with the laptop so far... :)
