View Full Version : Special ASCII characters using the Laptop number pad

Anyone know how to get special characters like degree, copyright, and trademark symbols using the laptop KB and number pad?

My usual ALT+0176 code (for degree) is not working when I use the laptop's number pad. It DOES work when I use an EXTERNAL keyboard with number pad.

I asked ASUS support. They have not been helpful yet.

I did, that doesn't work. My laptop has a number pad integrated in the mouse/track pad. Also tried FN, and FN+ALT. Still doesn't work.

Did you happen to run the Keyboard Firmware Update Tool V2.1.3 found at the bottom of the ASUS Download Center website?

This hotfix has caused a number of problems.

I did not. I have not updated anything manually, except for windows updates, since getting the machine 3 weeks ago. The only major thing I have done was add a 2TB SSD.

Does everything look normal in Device Manager/Keyboards?

I have an external keyboard attached.

See example below:

Thanks for your help. Yes, it all looks fine. And works properly with an external KB. Just the ALT+Code on the laptop keypad does not work.82083

Had one the other day with keyboard problems.

That ASUS Number Pad driver is bad. Manually update (browse computer for driver software) the driver, pick from list of available drivers, install the second listed driver not the first. Should be another HID Keyboard Device.

I would delete all the other HID Keyboard Devices and software in Device Manager, then rediscover items, see if they come back.

I'm on this forum often and I had seen this problem before.

With all the changes to the many versions of Windows 10 and all the updates that follow, it's remarkable that there aren't many more driver problems.

Let us know how my fix worked for you.

Good Luck

HI, I reverted to the older touchpad driver as you suggested. Unfortunately I am still not able to make special characters using the laptop's number pad. :(
