I think every BIOS these days can be considered beta :) Found and reported Bugs have to constantly be fixed and Intel redesigning power limit TAU or turbo boost timers...
The true beta bioses tend to be internal builds, AFAIK.

Using a plain Dell USB keyboard attached via the Aten CS1784A kvm. Keyboard setup works well with all other Asus mobos used so far.

On the Z490 Hero WiFi model, still getting occasional "keyboard not found" USB errors in BIOS only with all the BIOS versions tried - 0222/0503/0509/0606. 100% successful workaround is to unplug and replug into the other USB2 port when that happens, minor issue but annoying nonetheless when changeing BIOS options.

CSM option is already enabled. Any suggestions?

just observe if its after entering of os by doing this:
from a clean G3->S5, ie from AC no power to AC power, boot and enter bios but not os, and keep rebooting without entering the os but just the bios and see if not found issue still there.
if it only exhibits this issue after the os then prolly check drivers.
ive seen similar on other platforms occassionally from certain oses, think related to usb drivers in the os.

Issue already exhibits before any OS loading, the "no keyboard detected" error is reported immediately at the POST screen.

Hey there. Asus ROG Maximus XII Formula, initial BiOS [0403 or something]. XP is somewhat working, 10900K is almost constantly on 4.9 GHz and won't boost past this threshold, temperature didn't go over 63C. Just reporting, and flying away :)

Thank you so much, I was having a really annoying issue with my z490-E where anytime I completely shut my system off and reboot, my computer wouldnt recognize my m.2 drive and the only way to fix it is to reseat it. Updating to 0606 fixed the issue!

Asus ROG Maximus XII Formula, 0606, Core i9 10900K, still "stuck" at 4.9 GHz, sometimes 4.8 GHz, very rarely 4.5 GHz and 0.8 GHz [EiST], no 5.0, 5.1, 5.2 or 5.3 GHz. PSU is 700 Watt and powers both 8 and 4 pin EPS CPU connector.

//EDiT: Aaaand, it's EiSTing a lot nicer, but still can't get down under 4.0 GHz a lot. This is an update, an observation.

0607 now avalible for apex on the website ive been havng massive issues with avx currently as soon as enable it with all set voltages still crash yet its stable avx none avx wth teh same voltage dont make sense

I'm on MAXIMUS XII EXTREME upgraded from my MAXIMUS X CODE to try the new

Guys, does Your 10900K boots on either Formula, or Extreme past 4.9 GHz like at all? In HWInfo 64 or somewhere, where You can see it? I'm stuck on max. 4.9 GHz, either all core, or just "few" core, other EIST-ing works fine. I had Formula, changed it for Extreme, still the same results. Is my CPU faulty? Or something? I can overclock it to 5.1 GHz all cores easy, but it heats up a bit, I mean via Ai Overclock. I ran 0606 on Formula and now I'm running 0607 on Extreme.

In what way did your system "feel" more stable? Usually, it is or it isn't :)
Feel is very subjective. What exactly changed for you, in what way, and what were you having issues with before?
Any specifics? I would guess that 0606 to 0607 should be a minor update with a few fixes, not a major code branch change.

from my testing 0607 not limits io and sa voltage at 1.05 no matter what you set yet the older bios would drive these past 1.6v auto also somthing changd with vcore vault on 0607 im thinking of going back to 0607 as i can set vcore at 1.47 bios yet in windows shows 1.44 cpuz and my multimeter shows 1.48



0606 shows same vcore in bios as cpuz an multimeter was 0.03v higher

this issue now is the volts are a ta lower on the vcore so you have to bump it up another +5 in the bios for stability and when pushing hard that +5 makes you tip over the edge on heat

im havng an ssue with the rng ratio and my ram if i let ram default an just oc i can have high ring ratio no errors but as soon as i oc my ram i start gettng ring error (cache)

not sure what is going on also my vdroop is really bad on level 5 if im set at 1.47 i drop to 1.325 on load

lvl 8 holds vcore perfect and shows stabale voltage on the multimeter but im not sure if its spiking high due to all th miss information around llc :(

Are you using translation software to write this post? Because some things you wrote I don't understand, or they don't make sense. "Vault"? What does "vault" mean?

"going back to 0607" <--what? Did you mean "going back to 0606"? Please check your posts for accuracy. This stuff is confusing to read.

Also the very first sentence you wrote makes no sense either. "0607 not limits io/sa to 1.05v, yet the older bios sets this at 1.6v?" What do you mean "Not limits"? Sounds like you're saying the same exact thing. Maybe you meant "0607 limits IO/SA to 1.05v on auto, but 0606 sets it as high as 1.6v, if set on auto?"

Also, Level 5 LLC: 1.47v Bios-->1.325v load--this is proper behavior. Seen this on all bioses.

Bios: 606 shows same vcore in BIOS as CPU-Z? This should not happen, unless you are using LLC8. CPU-Z Vcore should always be lower than bios vcore, even on LLC7 it may be about 11-12mv lower (example: 1.470v-->1.459v).

And you should never use LLC8. LLC8 only for testing, and only at 1.25v or lower Bios set voltage.

Overclocking RAM stresses the IMC. Higher ring ratio when overclocking RAM will require more CPU Vcore, or higher VCCIO/VCCSA. Maybe both. This is normal behavior. Higher ring ratio will give more memory bandwidth (read, write, copy, maybe latency too). It is all related.

Just found out, that "everyone" has the same issue as I do... ._., they just don't know about it, or ignore it. Max. value is 5.1 GHz, now I had it in geekbench too...

All out of sudden, for no aparent reason, this morning the system woke up terribly slow. POST was terrible, Windows crashed to BSOD mid idle and BIOS is incredibly sluggish. CMOS reset did not help. There was no overclock. UEFI v is 0607,...

Can anyone confirm 0403 or 0607 bios cpu core ratio = all core multiplier say 51 ... is totally broken and acts like auto

Idles at 51 but soon after stress hits it darn thing throttles like crazy just using R20
First run throttles down to 4.0 and if you loop R20 it gets worse down to 2.6 lol
This is pretty wild for all core setting :confused:

Only option I can use that clocks stay up to 51 or... is By core usage this does not throttle clocks down until the chore is done.
Formula 0607 currently.

Also don't know what MCE is care to actually use the words and possibly where it is listed in bios cpu power management.... for an example.

I've already tried disabling that it makes no difference these bios do what they want to do and ignore settings.

You are completely, utterly lying. The bios code doesn't work that way.
PL1/PL2 and Tau are honored as long as all core/voltage/etc settings are left at auto as designed (besides XMP which you can change as needed)
And Asus is one of the few OEM's using correct Intel power limits as designed.

As soon as you click "Sync all cores" and enter a ratio, MCE (at auto) will recognize this and will disable the power limits for you, when MCE is at auto.
MCE disabled will enforce all limits unless you manually override each limit.

I've drawn (by accident, mind you) over 255 amps and 320 watts measured from the VRM by doing this--and CPU Package Power was 400 watts. No throttling. Just 110C. (I had CPU overtemperature protection set to 115C). And I didn't touch MCE. Just left it auto.

I'm 99% 100% certain you disabled MCE, probably because of some other board that you used in the past, and didn't max out your power and current limits.
Just leave MCE at auto and set an all core multiplier. It is then impossible for the CPU to throttle to 3.7 ghz unless you are overheating, unless you also changed the power limits from auto as well...

*And on the VERY UNLIKELY CHANCE that you actually ran into a genuine bug, why didn't you record it in a video, along with the original BIOS settings clearly shown, the windows AI Suite settings for the power limits, etc, clearly shown, and the stress test downclocking results clearly shown, so such an issue could be tracked down, if it existed? Of course the instant you start verbally harassing engineers, you lose ALL of your credibility and no one is going to care what you say anymore.

But of course you already RMA'd the board didn't you?

Definitely update. This is important especially from stock Bios. Many issues have been fixed.

Is anyone having issues with their Intel I255V-V Ethernet NIC?

@Shamino Any chance you could get your hands on a firmware roll back tool for the Intel I225-V Ethernet NIC?

Myn seems isnt working well at all. Ive done everything it seems. I feel like its been all buggy since I updated the firmware. I cant be positive tho as It was one of the first things i did when i got the board. I did the update as per instructions including the full power off and remove power. It seemed like it went well. Looked just like the PDF that come with the update tool.

List of things i tried.

1.Uninstalled Intel NIC and reinstall drivers multiple times. Both Version 1.0.0.13 and Version 1.0.1.4

2.Tested using different Cables confirmed seated properly and lights active

3.Hard reset and updated router RT-AC86U to most recent firmware. Same Result

4.Removed aftermarket router and unbridged my ISP modem and tried running directly to it. Same result..

5.Installed fresh spare SSD with a fresh install of windows 10 pro with drivers ONLY and same result.

6. Tried manual setting of duplex link speed to 1gb. Also tried multiple different NIC advanced settings. No Difference made.

Things to note.

1. All other devices in my house test perfectly Fine. A 10 year old POS HP laptop as well as a ipad on wifi can do the full speeds. LOL.

2. Switching to the the Aquantia 10g NIC on the XII extreme corrects speed problems. 650 ish every time. I can swap back n forth between NICs and replicate this issue over and over. But the The Aquantia 10g tests perfectly fine 650 ish Reliably Over and over while the intel throttles at 200ish.

3. When testing the Intel NIC. speeds seems to start out ok but speeds quickly drop to 200ish and never goes back up and any test after that the intel NIC chugs along at 200ish. Its almost like the intel nic is throttling.

4. I can replicate these results over and over for each NIC. Swapping the cable back and forth between NICs. Testing the same speedtest.net servers per NIC.

Attaching a test pic. I had one window open for each NIC. Left Aquantia 10g Right Intel I225-V. I tested each NIC alternating 3 times back n forth . Just moved the Ethernet cable then waited 10 seconds for sync then ran test then switched back and repeated test ect ect. 3 times each side alternating between. And same test server used for all alternating tests.

Test results for each side stayed the same every alternating test.

Anyone else getting issues? Or have some advice as to maybe something to try that i already havent tried in the list above


I have to be honest this is pretty frustrating. Aside from this issue the board seems to be absolutely fine. So with that said. I really dont want to pull this board out and tear down my custom loop if im better off running the Aquantia 10G no matter what as it seems to be working fine.. Is there any reason why one should use the Intel NIC over the Aquantia 10G one anyways? Im actually curious as to why they have both options anyways. Is there any pro or cons to using either of them?? I dont ever need to run 2 NICs personally. So can anyone give me a reason why i shouldn't just disable the intel NIC and just use the Aquantia 10g and forget about it?

Yeah I unfortunately followed the order as per the instructions the first time. I made sure to do just what it asked.

But I just tried again following the links you sent as well. Followed instructions to a T. And well still same results. Switching the Ethernet cable back n forth between the Aquantia 10gb and the intel I225-V Gives wildly different results. I can replicate this over and over back n forth. :(

Strange thing is that when using the Intel I223-V LAN transferring files over the lan it can fully saturate my 1gb lan 960ish mbps / 112MBs solid no problem. I did a 100gb file transfer and it held solid the whole time. And when I tested a game 60gb download from steam it also can max out my isp 650mbps dl. behaviour like this makes me believe its a firmware or driver issue. But I sent the same info off to asus a day ago and the rep says that I probobly have a faulty NIC. So i dunno. Its so strange. Its just like the intel nic doesnt like any web based speed tests. Ive tested this on 3 different browsers as well as a complete new windows installation with drivers only. always same result. Yet in real world scenarios it seems to function fine. Id normally just send it back to place of purchase and do a easy swap but unfortuanlty they are out of XII extremes and have no idea when they might get more. And with corona going on, Id image that RMA turn around with asus will not be a quick process :(

I think that is part of the changes they made to livedash control over all. All OLED products including Ryujin do this now. It's supposed to help with display burning which my Ryujin 360 has really bad already. I just applied the updates via Armory Crate and it started flickering too every like 3 seconds. It's the new normal.

so on the site stated that F4-4800C19D-16GTRS is supported BUT there is no such ram :)

the correct one is f4-4800c18d-16gtrs BUT this is recognized in bios in xmp profile as 4807mhz ram and ofc its unable to boot in OS

tested on bios v0607. maybe some suggestion or some beta bios? thanks

0069A must be good because it didn't work for me after restoring a system image created on 0607A and on bios 2
Got boot device issue can't remember actual error I am in legacy mode csm enabled/ fast start off/ secure boot off. single partition C m.2 sammy 970 evo on dimm_2 card Apex

Switched to bios 2 0607A and all is good

Put 0606A bios on bios 1 since it's been said to be best and sure enough no error booting with it on the same m.2 that couldn't boot on 0069A.
So something about the system image and 0069 wasn't compatible
Macrium reflect I've been using this image for a while never failed before 0069A to boot after restoring.

actully its boots to the OS but instant freez.. lowering it to 4400mhz will work. but the ram spec. on the site is wrong anyway. also apex supports this ram why not supported on hero ?

tested with 0069 bios. same prob.. also xmp recognized as 4807mhz

OMG! Thank you! LOL. Im not the only one experiencing this and Im not crazy! LOL.

Unfortunately Ive tried absolutely everything to fix this.
1. Redo firmware and drivers.(Did correctly first time though. Followed instructions properly but still tried again)
2. Reset Network
3. Tried different cables
4. Reset and upgrade RT-AC86U firmware.
5. Removed RT-AC86U and go direct isp modem
6. Different Advanced settings like Link speed
7. Install fresh windows V.2004 Drivers only
8. Install fresh windows V.1903 Drivers only

Ive also reached out to asus support and have shared my results and testing with them but it seems I keep getting a different person responding to my ticket everytime. And they keep posting the bare min simple troubleshooting steps like "check cable" "reset network" "reinstall drivers" "Check DHCP" and Exchange motherboard if all troubleshoot can not resolve the slow internet issue.

So it seems that they dont believe there is a bug or firmware issue and we have defective boards. And of course replacement boards right now are no where to be found :( Please reach out to asus support and open a ticket regarding this. Maybe if others report this they will look into it more.

The absolute strangest part is that the intel I225-V results vary depending on the test ran. Its not broken across the board. Yet the Marvel Aquantia 10gb tests fine on all tests. I honestly don't understand it. In my mind if it was defective or faulty. It would fail all tests. Why would it perform ok in some scenarios but not the other. Behavior like this makes me believe its driver related or firmware. But hey im not an engineer. LOL. As you can see in the included screenshot I tested 5 different tests but all using speedtest and used the same Test server to be equal.

Intel I225-V VS Aquantia 10gb

1. Chrome Web Speed test = Throttled Speeds
2. Chrome Speedtest Extension App = Good speeds
3. Speed Test Windows App = Throttled Speeds
4. Firefox Web Speed Test = Good Speeds
5. Explorer Web Speed test = Throttled Speeds

Does this make any sense to you? I also just did the very same test on my 10 year old HP hunk of junk laptop and it passed all 5 tests with the 640ish so again I feel that my network/modem/router/cabling/ISP can be ruled out as the problem. This behavior is only on the intel I225-V NIC in my place. I can replicate these results over and over.

yup me too. :( if you try Firefox it will work which makes this the strangest thing. I tried everything to fix it and no fix. Few people in other forum tested chrome for me and theirs works fine so I think maybe we got bad intel NICs. Not sure though as this is very strange. Im trying to get a replacement board. Thats all there is left to try. *Let me know if you fix it please. I will too.*

Hi all, I've had an issue for the past few weeks where my system will, with no overclocked settings applied to the CPU, GPU or RAM, wake itself up from sleep, sometimes causing a graphics driver freeze and hard system reboot when this occurs.

Specs: 10900K, Maximus XII Extreme (I'm using the bundled Thunderbolt 3 card), 2080 Ti Strix, 4x16GB B-Die 3200MHz C14, Samsung 970 Evo SSD, Windows 10 (I've tried a number of recent builds). My entire system is identical to before I upgraded from a Z370 Apex and 8700K, aside from the clean windows install and running 4 DIMMs instead of 2 (although no combination of DIMMs on different slots, even booting with one stick at a time, was any help).

This issue happens more frequently when I enable PCIE power saving options in the BIOS. I also experience occasional hard freezes and crashes during both web browsing and gaming within windows; the GPU fan will often get very loud briefly right as the computer crashes and restarts. The issues happen with my 2080 Ti, 1050 Ti and RX 580 GPUs, all of which are known good and working properly in other systems. Note that I am using the included ASUS Thunderbolt 3 adapter that comes with the motherboard, but disconnecting it did not seem to help. I have also tested with an i7-10700 CPU and experienced the same results.

I've tried at 100% stock settings across all components and even multiple installations of Windows. The issues do not seem to be impacted by overclocking, and neither the powercfg -lastwake command nor event viewer know what is causing the wakes specifically.

Some more details to add: if I disable PCIE native power management (as well as ASPM, clock gating, etc.) the system is much more likely to stay asleep, but will still wake up sometimes, and powercfg can’t find the source of the wakes. Leaving the power management settings ON and my Thunderbolt 3 card IN, powercfg -lastwake shows that a device on its root port is causing the wakes.

With power management settings ON but NO Tb3 card is installed, then powercfg can’t find the source of the wakes.

Curious to hear if anyone shares this experience or has any suggestions? I have taken further troubleshooting steps not outlined here. Not*sure if this is a defect of my board or an issue that affects all of this model, but I've tried every BIOS version posted here to no avail. ASUS support suggested that I clear the CMOS, and that had no effect. Thanks in advance all!!

Hi all, I've had an issue for the past few weeks where my system will, with no overclocked settings applied to the CPU, GPU or RAM, wake itself up from sleep, sometimes causing a graphics driver freeze and hard system reboot when this occurs.

Specs: 10900K, Maximus XII Extreme (I'm using the bundled Thunderbolt 3 card), 2080 Ti Strix, 4x16GB B-Die 3200MHz C14, Samsung 970 Evo SSD, Windows 10 (I've tried a number of recent builds). My entire system is identical to before I upgraded from a Z370 Apex and 8700K, aside from the clean windows install and running 4 DIMMs instead of 2 (although no combination of DIMMs on different slots, even booting with one stick at a time, was any help).

This issue happens more frequently when I enable PCIE power saving options in the BIOS. I also experience occasional hard freezes and crashes during both web browsing and gaming within windows; the GPU fan will often get very loud briefly right as the computer crashes and restarts. The issues happen with my 2080 Ti, 1050 Ti and RX 580 GPUs, all of which are known good and working properly in other systems. Note that I am using the included ASUS Thunderbolt 3 adapter that comes with the motherboard, but disconnecting it did not seem to help. I have also tested with an i7-10700 CPU and experienced the same results.

I've tried at 100% stock settings across all components and even multiple installations of Windows. The issues do not seem to be impacted by overclocking, and neither the powercfg -lastwake command nor event viewer know what is causing the wakes specifically.

Some more details to add: if I disable PCIE native power management (as well as ASPM, clock gating, etc.) the system is much more likely to stay asleep, but will still wake up sometimes, and powercfg cant find the source of the wakes. Leaving the power management settings ON and my Thunderbolt 3 card IN, powercfg -lastwake shows that a device on its root port is causing the wakes.

With power management settings ON but NO Tb3 card is installed, then powercfg cant find the source of the wakes.

Curious to hear if anyone shares this experience or has any suggestions? I have taken further troubleshooting steps not outlined here. Not*sure if this is a defect of my board or an issue that affects all of this model, but I've tried every BIOS version posted here to no avail. ASUS support suggested that I clear the CMOS, and that had no effect. Thanks in advance all!!

What power supply do you have and how old is it?
Before RMA'ing the board, can you try a different power supply?

I have a Seasonic SSR-1000TD 1000W titanium, which I believe came out in Jan 2019 so it's not very old. I could buy another PSU to test, but how plausible is it that I could begin to have these issues after changing motherboard+CPU? I'm not drawing much more power, especially on idle, and I have the same number of cables connected to the power supply.

Should be okay. You said clean windows install, did you install windows on a fresh drive or did you install windows on top of an older installation to keep your files and apps?

Did you try disabling c-states, speedshift, EIST(speedstep) and MonitorMwait, all power saving, and see if you still have issues with random crashes/idle, etc?

I completely formatted the drive and installed fresh from bootable media. I also just tried disabling all of those power saving options in addition to the PCIE ones to no avail :/

yup me too. :( if you try Firefox it will work which makes this the strangest thing. I tried everything to fix it and no fix. Few people in other forum tested chrome for me and theirs works fine so I think maybe we got bad intel NICs. Not sure though as this is very strange. Im trying to get a replacement board. Thats all there is left to try. *Let me know if you fix it please. I will too.*

Ok well Im at a loss of words.

I got the new replacement board this morning and swapped it out. Install went real smooth and quick. Left everything stock. Did not apply OC. Left stock shipped bios.. Installed fresh windows. Installed drivers only supplied on the usb stick.

And well my chrome speedtest with the intel I225-v is still wonky. Throttles randomly between 200-300 mbps. LOL. LMAO. And the Aquantia 10gb tests fine 650 mbps.

What a waste of time man.

Yeah unfortunately i had already tried the 1.0.1.7 Driver on your thread on the board that I had just pulled out. It was the same thing. Didnt change anything.

6. Tried manual setting of duplex link speed to 1gb. Also tried multiple different NIC advanced settings. No Difference made.

7. And now Ive tried a completely new motherboard. Stock with all settings stock. Stock bios. And stock drivers off the included usb stick. Its the same.

When running speedtest.net in chrome or explorer or speedtest windows app my DL speed gets throttled between 200-300 mbps. Firefox seems to report 650 with the intel nic tho which makes this so strange. If I switch to the aquantia 10gb the speed tests behave normally and give me 650 on every test no matter what browser or app. Same as every other PC ive tested on my network including a busted ass old 10 year old HP laptop and a mac pro. they all test 650ish all browsers all apps.

I dunno man. I feel like Ive tried everything. Asus told me it was most likely a faulty network card so I bought another xii extreme and its doing the same thing. I cant imagine ive received back to back bad boards.

You already know it's not a bad board. You knew this before, it was obvious, but you didn't want to accept that possibility. Everyone saw it's an issue with the Intel nic, either drivers or firmware. A bad board doesn't make you get full speed with a plugin and not full speed through a browser connecting to the same host, then full speed to another connection point. I've seen similar stuff with Killer wifi cards vs Intel wifi cards in the past. Welcome to networking. Where no one can get it right.

Didn't you see the issues with the Aquantia drivers still on the Asus site (and not the most current ones Mokichu released here, which are also on Marvell's site? I think the (edit) 2.1.18.0 drivers or whatever (I forgot already). Try playing Overwatch with the original released Aquantia drivers and see what happens. You won't even be able to connect. Then try it with even "V1" stepping of the Intel i225-v---zero problems. Zero. Does that also mean the motherboard is bad? No, of course not. Updating to the newest Aquantia marvell drivers--Overwatch works 100% perfectly...(2.1.21.0 or newer)

You did splendid and meticulous testing. But you followed up wrong. The correct thing to do was to contact Intel's level 2 networking team and to submit your findings to them so they could determine if it's a driver or firmware bug. These boards all use the same firmware (as far as I know, besides company specific device ID's) so Intel would be able to contact you if they determined the source of the issue. (Now actually getting a non-canned reply from Intel and getting them to admit responsibility---that's a whole other ball game). Asus had nothing to do with this since they didn't make the networking chip. Nor the "base code" drivers for it.

Yeah your right Falkentyne.. :( From the beginning I felt this was a driver or firmware issue or some strange bug. And my gut kept telling me it was. I forwarded all the testing i did to the asus help team and they multiple times said it was a faulty network card. Inside I really felt it wasn't but I needed to feed my curiosity to find out if it might be. LOL. And well yeah. LOL. Wasted a bunch of time.

Your correct the stock aquantia drivers are garbage. they give you .1 mbps upload speeds. It throttles upload HARD. And the updated driver corrects it. Asus should remove it from their driver page.

Funny you mentioned other follow ups. I actually last week submitted my findings to intel. I never received a response back tho unfortunately. I probably didnt even send it to the right department as I just did it through their normal channel. But I did try. :(

At this point Ive just disabled the intel nic and am using the aquantia going forward. The aquantia nic seems fine so not the end of the world. I think the part that had me confused the most is usually the intel nics are good and the additional one they slap on the board are the ones that act wonky. At least with my previous boards. Ill test it out the intel nic every once in a while after a new driver is release and see if it gets fixed one day but I guess if im not using it it doesnt really matter..

This indicates probably that the controller itself works well and that it is probably a software/middleware issue with a feature of the new I225-V controller, try to open a ticket at Intel & Google Chrome support team by specifying your comparison tests with Firefox.

I sent off the info to intel. Most likely not to the right department cause I never got a response but Ill try again and find the right path. Never thought about sending the info to google. Good idea. Thanks.

Remember Shamino is in Taiwan, and their entire team is in Taiwan as far as I know. They have Hinet and I think 1 Gbit internet is standard over there. So it would have been impossible for them to determine a problem going from connecting to Hinet to an overseas internet provider. You have who you're connecting from and who you're connecting to. Perhaps a VPN would help change where you're connecting from, but that's beyond my knowledge. How do you connect to a VPN, for example, if your ISP goes down? You still need to have -service-.

Since Asus couldn't track down the problem, they assumed it was the board. The only way for Asus to reproduce this was to have their USA branches run this test, not their Taiwan branches. If the issue related from the NIC To the source ISP, they would never have been able to determine an issue (of course I don't even know if you're in the USA, if not, then their UK branches...)

That's why you should contact Intel. Intel has far more resources.

Yup I just submitted a ticket to intel again this time as opposed to just using their normal contact email. Maybe this will get somewhere.

One very interesting thing tho. Is MrTOOSHORT over on the other forum has the exact same ISP and modem/gateway as me and also has the same plan and his Intel I225-V doesnt have this behavior. So I dont think its the ISP. This Is what makes this the most confusing for me. He does have the apex board but it is the same intel NIC.

The only thing that was suggested by a user that I havent tried is pulling both of the m.2 drives from under the plate between the two PCIE slots as its not very easy to access with my custom loop. But I dunno I didnt think that they would some how throttle the intel nic. Cause it doesnt effect the aquantia nic.

I dunno. I guess Ill see if intel has anything to say about it. All I can do at this point. I like the board so its gunna stay either way.

Main reason I posted back here was so that other guy here or anyone else that might see my earlier posts and who is experiencing this doesnt bother waste their time RMAing or replacing the board. I think by the looks of his screen shot hes from a diff part of the world. Im in canada.

Hello,

1.I would like to report a bug with 0607 BIOS with my ASUS ROG STRIX Z490-G Gaming. I am using MSI GeForce 2060 SUPER as GPU.
The WHITE LED stays ON indicating a problem with VGA on reboot from Windows. Tried both DP and HDMI connections. Monitor doesn't light up.
The light goes off( as it should) on cold start or after full shut down. In this case ROG logo shows and I am able to access bios and PC boots up normally.
The GPU selector in BIOS is set to AUTO. If I set it to GPU then no matter what I do monitor doesn't go on and I cannot access bios. I re-flashed the bios and had to load default settings to be able to access it again.

2. The latest version of Intel LAN driver 1.0.1.4 which is posted on support page doesn't seem to work. IT warns that you must update the firmware before proceeding which I have done. However it still does not see my cable( cable unplugged in windows). Reverting to older version driver fixes the problem.

To be honest I don't....I have tested it but it behaves the same as the previous one as far as OC performance and RAM stability for the stuff I am testing

I also have a small problem that cannot be solved.
When the screen turns off after 15 minutes, all the motherboard, ram and gpu turn off the LEDs, I don't want that to happen, how can I solve it?

Another problem is when the pc is completely turned off and the motherboard stays on the LEDs ...

Sounds like the PC is going into a sleep state after 15 min and thats why all the LEDs turn off... Might want to check you sleep and hibernation setting under the power options in windows.

Also if you want all the motherboard LEDs to turn off when the computer is off you need to change the setting in the bios. The setting you will need to look for is under the ADVANCED tab. Then On board devices configuration. Then change the Led lighting in off state to - STEALTH MODE. Save and restart. Thats should work.

Btw. Intel has all the information regarding the wonky I225-V Behavior and is looking into in for me :) Ill let you know if they provided me a fix :)

AFAIK this is a known issue with armoury crate and is waiting a fix in the new version which is supposed to drop "soon"

Well the suspension is disabled, I only have to turn off the screen after 15 minutes.
Hibernation is disabled too.

I'm going to test what you say in BIOS to see if it fixes when I turn it off.

I find it quite nice news, to see if they can solve the LAN I225-V.

Great news, even though right now I have uninstalled "armory crate" due to the number of processes that are always in the second plane.

Yup I just submitted a ticket to intel again this time as opposed to just using their normal contact email. Maybe this will get somewhere.

One very interesting thing tho. Is MrTOOSHORT over on the other forum has the exact same ISP and modem/gateway as me and also has the same plan and his Intel I225-V doesnt have this behavior. So I dont think its the ISP. This Is what makes this the most confusing for me. He does have the apex board but it is the same intel NIC.

The only thing that was suggested by a user that I havent tried is pulling both of the m.2 drives from under the plate between the two PCIE slots as its not very easy to access with my custom loop. But I dunno I didnt think that they would some how throttle the intel nic. Cause it doesnt effect the aquantia nic.

I dunno. I guess Ill see if intel has anything to say about it. All I can do at this point. I like the board so its gunna stay either way.

Main reason I posted back here was so that other guy here or anyone else that might see my earlier posts and who is experiencing this doesnt bother waste their time RMAing or replacing the board. I think by the looks of his screen shot hes from a diff part of the world. Im in canada.

Hey thanks for sharing. So Re installing the firmware seemed to correct the issue for you? How long were you experiencing the throttled speeds? What Bios version are you running? And did you keep the v1.0.1.7 installed while doing the firmware update? Did you reinstall Driver after or just to the firmware update?

Interesting you mention the proset diag test. I actually found the same thing with the cable status. And like you mentioned, I dont think its works properly as I tested MANY diff cables and they are fine. This also happened on both of the MB i tested....

You see. I only asked that question in the past generation "Z390" did not have this behavior. It is working correctly, stay in this code "00" for 2 seconds at most and start normally. Doing "OC" 10900k

You need to enable both Embedded Controller (EC) support and Embedded Controller (EC) bank switching in AIDA64 / main menu / File / Preferences / Stability. That will unlock a few additional sensor readings on your motherboard. Make sure to not have Asus AI Suite or any of its background services installed on your system. If you have any of those left around, a collision may occur while AIDA64 tries to perform EC bank switching, and it may just cause a system lockup or sudden system restart.

Are you sure you are reading it correctly ? Try again. It says to rename the BIOS file to that IF YOU ARE USING THE BIOS FLASHBACK FUNCTION FROM USB, BLIND, WITHOUT CPU INSTALLED.

Renaming is only for bios flashback (e.g. without CPU installed or if you can't boot).
For Ezflash (normal flash) through BIOS, the bios name can be anything you want.

I flashed BIOS version 0704 for the Hero. Quite a few bugs in it, very obvious ones at that.
First, the APM settings I set to Auto, they revert to whatever random setting they want so I have to set them again.
Second, instead of RAM compatibility, it's now not even working at SPD, which would be Auto or Manual, cycles forever until in POSTs again in safe mode. That is with Crucial Ballistix RGB 3200C16, one kit of 2x32GB sticks. This is quite silly, I mean....I have to enable XMP for the system to boot. SPD is 2666 with some very loose timings, so ...
I tried Auto, I tried manual, I was afraid that would be that until I can reflash BIOS, but it worked on XMP, at least that.
But I want my SPD back, it's like 40C in the room where the PC is, already too hot, I don't want the 1.35V through the RAM in these conditions until I have my AC back.

Also, one bug that has been in the ASUS BIOSes for ... EVER.
Setting the onboard LEDs to All On in ON mode, POST code to Auto, and OFF state to Stealth Mode, sets Stealth mode for ON state and that's that. Every single ASUS board I tried does that, I mean, I tried dozens of different boards. WTF ?
I have to post, then go and redo those settings again, although they were confirmed and shown in the change list before exiting the BIOS previously. That is ridiculous.

tXP 7 + PPD 1 (Default) = 37.4 ns
tXP 4 + PPD 1 = 36.3 ns
tXP 4 + PPD 0 = 35.0 ns

There's a thread on reddit about this showing gains for everyone who tests it. However, these timings are not exposed in the UEFI meaning you have to set them with memtweakit every single reboot - a huge pain obviously. Could we have these timings made available on a UEFI-level? Or is there another way we could make the settings stick?

Ive Upgraded from 7700k to 10900k and now my gpu score dropped from 30700 in firestrike to 29500.
Everything is the Same As before, i checked gpu it runs 16x
No heat issues either.
Is this to be expected cause the Ring Bus Has more latency cause of more cores?
Ive read something like that and thats why Many firestrike benchers use 7700k-8700k.

No, the 10900K is not slower than a 7700K. Maybe you should reformat your C: drive and perform a clean Windows install with all the newest drivers.

Edit : One thing you can try first, is to remove all the CPU power limits in BIOS.
Edit 2 : Make sure your RAM is not running at 2133 Mhz speed in BIOS. If it does, that will ruin your performance.

Latency with Z490/10900K is about ~2ns worse compared to Z390/9900K with the same memory settings, but that is not the cause of your problem. What is, I don't know.

Do you even know what the ring bus is ? What would the ring bus have to do with GPU ?

Easy solution
1) Disable C1E and C3
2) Set ASPM Power management to disabled.
The biggest culprit of lower GPU core is C3 (sometimes C1E) being enabled. People who refuse to disable C-states because "muh yeet volts" have to deal with low GPU cores. Can't have your cake and eat it too...

And if you upgraded using the SAME windows install--reinstall windows from scratch. This stuff doesn't come free.
I've already encountered two people who had strange lag/latency issues who completely fixed it by doing a clean install of windows 10 from the ISO/media creation tool.

What memory do you have as I find different kits will require different Round Trip Latency and I/O L as I have those set manually. If they are off it wont boot. I could send the settings and you go in and set I/O L and RTL to auto if fails to boot and then after seeing what they are on auto you go in and tighten them up. I think I have setting for Team 4500 and Gskill 4800 kits so let me know. Also these are not fully tweaked and tested just playing around and they could use some more optimizing if someone really to spend the time to bring voltages down. They work for me for gaming and my daily pc uses.

Also I have a 10700k and most have 10900k so I dont know how that will or how it will effect things if you want a .cmo file. After writing all of that do you mean the settings as a txt file or a .cmo file?

Edit I see you have a 10900k and the GS4800. I don't know what will happen using a cmo file as we have different CPUs.

I did have issues with the mobo when going to sleep and when I would wake it up, it would have no video and required a reset to reboot it back up and get video back, but I changed the settings in Windows for hybrid sleep off, and now that works, but now the computer refuses to stay off and don't see any settings for wake up via USB or mouse in the bios that could be triggering this. I'm going to unplug the front header pins and see its possibly the switch or wiring, but this wasn't an issue in the beginning at all, but now is and its literally refusing to stay off in two shutdown currently as I'm typing this. :rolleyes:

So, unplugged the front header pins, shut off mouse, turn off PC in windows.... computer is off, turns back on in 20-30 seconds. Did this 2 times in a row. Turned off the PSU switch for a few seconds, then turn it back on, PC stays off. Not sure WTH is going on, but its like a similar issue my Gigabyte Z390 Master mobos had with waking up from being off for no reason, which was fixed with later bios updates.

We need to get access to tXP and PPD in Bios, cause right now its only available on windows desktop with mem tweaker and needs to be reapplied after every reboot.
it drops latency by almost 3ns with zero downsides, so please consider making the memory timings available in next bios.

If you dont want to go thru all the settings DRAM Refresh Interval [65535] will make the biggest difference. Also make sure tWRWR_dg is [4] or it will kill write bandwith and setting Maximus Tweak mode 2 will usually set it higher if left on Auto.

Latency with Z490/10900K is about ~2ns worse compared to Z390/9900K with the same memory settings, but that is not the cause of your problem. What is, I don't know.

its a issue with aida on write which affects latency
*10700k has better latency 4kc17 onwards its already below 40ns
and scales properly

but*10900k has a bug on write which affects latency

Do you want something you just enable XMP and go or are you ok with setting things manually and doing hours of testing? If you want something simple/easy I would recommend 4000-4133 kits. The higher speed kits can be tricky to make work especially if using 4 dimms or 2 x 16g sticks.

Also those Gskill 4500 19 are 19-26-26. You will probably get as good or better performance from the slower 4000 15-16-16 or something like 4133 17-17-17 kits. The 4266 17-18-18 are also an excellent kits. If it were me I would suggest one of these 3 for someone that wants something easier to get working.

Look here https://www.gskill.com/configurator to see more real world speeds the average user can expect. Most of the z490 boards are only 4133 by Gskill for the reason that those higher speeds are harder to hit for the average user.


Asus may have 4500-4800 for QVL but that will require everything being top notch probably requiring binning CPU, MB and RAM sticks.

I see that currently there are probs with both bios and also with CPU availability (NL here) so that means I will wait for all those things to settle. One frustration with my current x299 E Gaming is also that it was impossible to obtain faster QVL RAM. This also goes for E Gaming II when I looked it up recently. And now I see that Max XII QVL RAM has the same kind of issue.

Binning, people buy a bunch of kits and test them and use the best sticks. Most good b die will clock similarly. It just when pushing for really high clocks or tight timings or both that you need really good sticks. Even cheap 3200/c14 b die will usually do 4133/17 to 4400/17. You are basically just paying Gskill or the manufacturer to "bin" the kits for you so instead of paying $100 for a 3200c14 kit you pay $200-400 for a 4133/c17 kit or 4800/c18 as they have tested and verified the ram will run that speed.

The "weak" link is usually the CPU IMC or motherboard. You could take a 10900k and ram that runs 4800c18 on an Apex but put that exact same 10900k and ram in a Hero motherboard and it might top out at 4200c17.

Samsung is what to look for in the Asus QVL(under chip brand) if you are looking for b die which most people prefer for higher clocks and tighter timings. Or look at the first 3 timings. B die are "usually" all the same like 17-17-17. Hynix and Micron will be something like 18-22-22.

Just because the two kits I Iisted are not on Asus QVL doesn't mean they will not work. Asus cant test every kit out there. They are on Gskills approved list for the Z490 Max Ext so they will work. If you wanted to you could tweak them down to 4000 16-16-16 or up to 4133 17-17-17. They are a low voltage kit and a really good bin so you can increase it up to say 1.45v. but even at XMP 4000 17-17-17 I would take them over some over the 4500 19-26-26 Hynix kits on the QVL list.

even when MRC Fast boot is disabled, memory training drops one channel IOL every 2nd training to 14 or 15, while the other channel is at like 2. so you have to re-train until both are IOL are close or equal, then go into bios, turn of MRC Fast boot and the timing is "saved", kinda iffy...

tested with 2 SR 8Gb B-Die A2 kits, same behavior

can you fix this in bios?

How does obtaining those fastest RAMs usually work? Do they appear at some point?

Regarding the XMP profiles, I see discrepancies (mostly at the last clock number) in the vendor vs. asus spec. I guess that those do need to be entered manually, according to the QVL information.

@bscool Basically, vendors don't have the hardware yet, so I watch for when they will. A month ago, no one had i9-10980XE or Max XII boards for sale, and now they are common good. Hopefully, that means too that i9-10900K is coming here soon. When it appears with a foreseeable delivery time (e.g. not "delivery in 2020"), I can order both the cpu and the mobo from one place. Meanwhile, I have time to plan the box.

Talking about the boards, from Max XII Extreme I could only wish a PS/2 port. The reason I won't go for Apex is the number of RAM slots. I want to have the freedom to use 4-piece RAM kits. Two fewer SATA slots aren't a biggie, and I can probably make due without all the heatsinking, two PCB layers (meh), and if VRM is less beefy it *probably* can work as well, but altogether I have the lingering question why compromise if I don't have to. In turn, I can live without the ~5 GHz RAM support that comes with Apex exclusively. The Formula has one PS/2, and a bit less power (70 vs 90 amps on the power phases) so the question is again why compromise if I don't have to. It looks like OC'ing and power vs. PS/2, so I still go with OC'ing and power.

One thing I really like about the e gaming is the vertical M.2 slot. Unfortunately, with the Maximus XII line, it is either stuck to the board, or in the DIMM.2. Tho, the backside M.2 at the Formula is a real gem. <3

I am with you on that one, and I really-really like how the Trident Z Royal look like. See, at some points in the past I felt harassed on these forums, because I didn't have a QVL-listed RAM kit. Well, getting a QVL-listed RAM kit didn't fix the issues (the mobo is broken), but at least it should drive away the harassment. Mods aren't helping with that over here, so I would stick with the QVL-listed RAM if only for that reason.

So, unplugged the front header pins, shut off mouse, turn off PC in windows.... computer is off, turns back on in 20-30 seconds. Did this 2 times in a row. Turned off the PSU switch for a few seconds, then turn it back on, PC stays off. Not sure WTH is going on, but its like a similar issue my Gigabyte Z490 Master mobos had with waking up from being off for no reason, which was fixed with later bios updates.

I can reproduce this every time, so it became a habit to restart the PC before logging into Windows after powering it up.

Do you see this as well? Any ideas?

Yes, before posting here I spent hours searching and trying out what I found, including disabling power management and disconnecting everything except system drive, RAM, CPU and GPU, unfortunately with no success. What puzzles me is the different behaviour upon restart. From a system i.e. OS level, it shouldn't make any difference at all.

EDIT: Just found out it's enough to enter the BIOS with F2 at power-on and then exit again without changing anything. This seems to have the same effect as a restart: no high CPU on ACPI.sys. Experimented with longer POST delays, but that doesn't change a thing.

I can even boot Ubuntu from a USB drive and get the same issue:
- if it is booted from a cold system, I have one core busy with kworker /0:2-kacpi_notify
- if I restart into Ubunto via reboot, then CPU levels are back to normal

Looking at the interrupts there, I find /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe6F to be the one causing high CPU. If I disable it within Linux, CPU returns to normal.

so is this expected, or a glitch in bios that Asus can fix, or a glitch in IMC microcode that Intel needs to fix?

As far as I know that is normal if your pushing the memory or it is on the edge of stability. That is why many set all the timing manual so they stay set. Every Asus board I have(z390 Apex/Hero, z490 Apex) does the same when pushing the memory so I set everything manually.

To test what I am saying put the memory down to say 3600-4133(depending on board and RAM) and it will train correctly every time. I saw in another post of yours you mentioned training above 4500, that is starting to pushing things even on the Apex and will probably require manual settings if you want to ensure the timings stick after every boot.

Just because the Apex has QVL to 4800-5000 many will still be limited to much less because of RAM or the CPU IMC. if I had to guess, this is some kind of historically grown duct tape approach in the IMCs microcode for supporting > 4266 that worked fine with < 8 cores, but now with increased ring length of 10 cores becomes dodgy.

an IOL difference of 1 seems to equal about 0.1ns of latency. so both channels running at default IOL 14, as opposed to properly trained 3 e.g., is a memory latency penalty of 14-3 * 2 * 0.1ns = 1.8 ns ~ 5 %.

probably not a big deal for most users, but significant enough to be addressed imho.

What kind of latency are you getting? I am getting and see other in 34-35ns range using Aida64 to test.

I'm also waiting for a new bios for the Strix Z490-E, as i can't seem to get my XMP speeds on memory F4-4000C17Q-32GTZR (4000-17-17-17 @1.35v, tried a adding more voltage, loosening timings etc) and latency (~47.5ns) seems high compared to what other are posting.
I've also noticed that APCI.SYS is causing latencymon to say my system isn't suitable to realtime audio, which i think someone else had posted a few pages ago.

Should i jump up to the 0704 bios?

It seems like your memory is not stable. I can set my IO-L and all the other settings manually and they boot and work. The only time they wont is when it is on the edge of stability then they might work one boot and not another.

Have you ran any stress test or just bench marks when it does train correct?

I haven't seen anyone else posting about IO-L not working on the Z490 Apex or have you and can you post links I would like to read more about it?

Also why do you set IO offset to 25 instead of 21? I find it harder to boot 25 and if set to 21 and then set the other timings down it gives the same performance when I compared the two methods. Or is there something else it effects?

this looks normal to me, my M12A also has about 2mm of flex with foam between the io shield and the connectors to bridge the gap.

I think this is done purposely to allow for certain manufacturing tolerances with cases and still ensure proper seating and grounding of the io shield to the case.

can you just shift the motherboard towards the io shield by like 1mm, so the holes line up? the foam in the io shield should compress and allow for the movement. once you screw it in, the io shield should be statically in place and not rattle around

To start use 21 21(or Auto) and not 25 25.

Then when you boot and get IO of say 15 and 14. Change them to 7 7.

Then change RTL from 73 73 to 65 66

(15-7=8 73-8=65 14-7=7 73-7=66 example).

This is just an example as your actual # will be different.

If you do this correctly you will get the same performance as you were using your 25 25 and it boot and will be stable IF your CPU, RAM and IMC are able to do it. You are really asking a lot(4700 17 17 17 1t) for only having 2 CPUS and 4 kits of mem. That is a level few can run daily and be stable. It will require top "binned" CPU IMC, RAM, mobo and cooling.

I was going off the assumption that getting first error in karhu at 1000% is better than getting an error at 7%. Therefore I assumed training differences boot to boot would mean stability differences.

But in reality, as I've just learned, the difference between passing 7% and 1000% is just RNG, even at statically controlled dimm temps of 39C max.

At higher clocks higher percentages of test completion will be reached faster, which would lead you to believe your setup is sable faster. But percentage does not mean anything alone. Also needs a certain amount of time passed it seems.

So like test for 10000% karhu or one hour, whichever takes longer, to be really sure. Also means the main selling point of karhu over hci pro, that it is faster, is worthless.

One question. Now that I fell back to using the mobo's integrated sound (M12E), I again face the problem that the sound is very screetchy while the graphics is rendered. This might get better once I move the video card into vertical position, but I am not yet there. Is there a way to mitigate that noise?

Update: One workaround is to attach the speakers to the stereo output on the chassis, which goes to HD Audio. Now, I still need the i/o panel for 5.1.

I did this setting in Windows 10 v2004 and now it seems to have resolved the random power ons once it's shutdown. The PSU was swapped out from an EVGA B3 850 to a Corsair AX860 and it still had power ons 30 seconds or so after shutting down. Ever since applying just the disable Fast Start only, this issue is gone.

I have just formatted my system and now I have all the updated drivers.

Is your FPS uncapped?
Your GPU will not work at 100% if

1) it doesn't need to (it's rendering up the maximum the engine allows).
2) you're using a FPS capping or vertical sync method.
3) the CPU is holding back the rendering ifrom the GPU for some reason (I believe there were some issues with RDR2 and framerates higher than 144 fps, with certain amounts of cores or threads specifically enabled?).

Gsync will only work at your monitor's refresh rate range. and there are settings where the FPS will get capped at or right below the refresh rate of your monitor (hz).

disable gsync and then use something like MSI Afterburner's RTSS and post your FPS. I bet your GPU will then be running at 100%.

Ah yes, there was an error in the manual that came with my M12E.

According to the manual, CPU_FAN is the right one of the two connectors. But following this gives the 'CPU Fan Error!'. I tried the left one just per plain intuition, and it worked. Now I see that the online manual is updated, and marks the left conector as the CPU fan.

The story here is that TT View 91 isn't really working well with my 1080 Ti, so the graphics card hangs with its full length off the external chassis panel. The View 91's triangular mount is placed too low and too far to be of any help holding the card. And it was also getting in the way of mounting the Asus ROG Strix riser cable to the card, so it is out.

But this accessory, I thought that it would have the prefect length for supporting the graphics card from the other end, and that was right.

CR2 is typical for Intel, good luck getting CR1 at high ram frequencies.

Thats Not true, on msi z490 unify (which is a 250 board) i can run 4700 cr1, Same with apex 4700 cr1 no Problem.
So the Bios for hero XII is crap.

afaik 0098 on extreme is the same as 0088 on apex. most significant update is txp, ppd control in bios

2. The latest version of Intel LAN driver 1.0.1.4 which is posted on support page doesn't seem to work. IT warns that you must update the firmware before proceeding which I have done. However it still does not see my cable( cable unplugged in windows). Reverting to older version driver fixes the problem.

I notice on my Maximus XII Hero that the BIOS mentions LN2 mode and the voltage ranges associated. I know on previous boards there was a physical jumper to turn LN2 mode on, but there is not one present on the Hero (Apex and Extreme still have it). Is there no way then to gain access to the extended voltage ranges on the Hero?

Hi it doesn't thermal throttle but power throttle so maybe the CPU draws more current/power than whats set in the bios. See if you can find the power limit in the BIOS and tell us what it is :-)

10900k is hungry power house . if you disable those limit expect more heat

Are you using auto Voltage for Vcore? (Auto voltage is crap is too high and cpu generate more heat, if you undervolt you can gain better performance even without setting those limits)

For disabling Power throtle you have 2 options

On main page
1. Enable asus multicore enhancer (option disable all limits) this should set everything for you


2. manualy set on main page tweaker
CPU current limit

Internal CPU power management

Long duration package power
Short package power
package power time

just write 99999 in all and it will automaticly set the numbers

from the device manager properties it has to be changed the policy from "auto negotiate" in "full flux 100Mb" or whatever works... and then connection is established It's been nothing but issues with my Mobo and I had similar issues with no internet connection and went through all the steps and tried, I never used my PC via Wi-Fi and then it occurred to me that my Mobo is Z490-G Wi-Fi, so I downloaded the Wi-Fi drivers to connect via Wi-Fi put the antenna and updated Windows 10 and made sure everything was up to date.

- I downloaded the Armoury Crate software and installed v1.0.1.3
- I went back to updating the v.1.45 firmware waited for it to say successfully complete and then shutdown PC and Unplugged the PSU.
- I waited about a minute plugged it back in turn system on and went back to downloading the LAN update Driver v1.0.1.4
- Its working and I've tested my connection no issues.

Right now I'm having 2 issues with my Mobo

- DIMM Slot 1: The system wont boot up when memory stick is on (Slot # 1) I switched each memory to (Slot # 1) same results, I get the yellow indicator.
- BIOS Update: I keep getting this message "Not Proper BIOS" and I'm afraid to update the BIOS due to people having issues after updating specific versions.

For me the previous _ASUS Bios support of the Z490 boards is a joke I have participated in many generations of chipsets because there were updates every 3 weeks etc since the Z490 officially 2 updates e.g. for my Strix E Gaming a 320 € motherboard, I don't know why ASUS is sleeping here when if Shamino didn't exist then we would have the 0703 and the 0704

Thanks, I played with this, and things got better. I still have a long way to go before I find a good voltage. I will leave that for some other post.

Right now I discovered a new thing. Not a week ago, I got one F4-4000C15Q-32GTZR. But now that I have it, I experience frequent crashes of the game.

I ran memtest86 on those sticks, and it found 18 errors in the four passes (see below). In total, the test 6 failed 3/4 times. Since those crashes started with the new RAM, it points to RAM being the issue. Is there something else I should try before I return the kit? The kit is in the QVL for the M12E, therefore it should just work.

First update your BIOS, and load optimized defaults after that. You may need to adjust VCCSA and VCCIO voltages manually, to say 1.3v. XMP profiles are not allways plug&play.

What bios version are you using?. The 10th gen should have best IMC but there is always silicon lottery. So you could try testing with just 1 ram stick, maybe 1 or 2 sticks are bad. You can try more VDimm voltage or adjust VCCIO or VCCSA 1.25 should be enough. You have long day ahead of you :) testing ram is pain

The BIOS is already the latest available for M12E, 0607 2020/06/11; this kit* runs at 1.5 V when OC'd to 4000 MHz. I picked it specifically because it is in the QVL for M12E, and it doesn't fall under higher frequencies (above 4000 MHz), which are expectedly a pain to tune. It shouldn't be this much pain even.

What would be the purpose of testing less than the whole kit? For example, identifying on which sticks errors happen won't help me, as I need the four sticks to work together. Since the kit is within the return right period, the right thing is to report the fault to the vendor and ask for a replacement. Eh?

You should try update 0704 from first page. And if you try one by one and if it will have zero error the problem could be your CPU IMC(memory controler) or return them and try new one if you still have problem. Than your CPU or mobo can be problem.

I may have neglected to mention that there were no game crashes while running things with a CMK32GX4M4A3200C16. Maybe it is relevant that the issues with frequent game crashes only started when I installed the new F4-4000C15Q-32GTZR.

Does this play in the favor that the F4-4000C15Q-32GTZR is defective, or is that a rather weak indicator?

Hm, 0704, I didn't believe that we will be getting new BIOS on the forum. I might give it a try.

Well your jump from 3200 to 4000. It could be many things mobo seting something bad. Your IMC is weak. Or bad luck with memory.

First i would try that bios. Clear cmos. And go from zero. Enable xmp. Test if it is bad. Try UP voltage and if you are not comfortable with putting more voltage. Return them and try new one and if that is bad than it must be mobo or cpu.

Ed1. about QVL apex should support 5000+ there are kits that can do , but show me a CPU that can handle it without tweaks
Or return them and buy 3600 c14 the performance will be same with less hassle. 4000+ is just marketing

Hm. This is the newest, I did update to hte 0704. Then I did more testing, targeting hte Test 6 (Block move, 64-byte blocks), which failed the first time.

I tested with CPU and RAM at stock speed: no errors.
CPU OC'd (x53), RAM stock speed (2133 MHz): no errors.
CPU on stock, RAM OC'd: that was a flood of errors, ~150 in four passes. And even the memtest86 froze at the end, lel.

Fine. RAM voltage at 1.51 V. Error flood, 49 at the first pass, ~190 projected for the four passes.
RAM voltage at 1.52 V. Error flood.
RAM voltage at 1.54 V. Error flood. That was over 100 erorrs in the first pass. Projected ~400 in four passes.

Increasing voltage increases the error rate drastically. I definitely want those sticks out of my PC.

Does this difference in behavior when CPU vs. RAM are OC'd lead to a better diagnosing whether it is the CPU's inability to handle 4000 MHz, or a faulty RAM?

If you are testing stability always do it one by one. First oc cpu to max then add RAM. Or ram then cpu if OC both its hard to diagnos. So put yor cpu to stock. And lets say your XMPvoltage is 1.5V so i would try 1.54v not workin. Put 1.5v back and try VCCSA and VCCIO 1.25v if this not help return the kit. Iam not and pro OC ok. So this is all i can help.

This board is daisy chain so we need to find out if the sticks are bad so you need to do this.

1) Go into tweaker's paradise and set DDR Termination Voltage (DDR VTT) to 0.750v. Then set DDR Voltage to 1.50v manually.

2) Set VCCIO to 1.20v and VCCSA to 1.25v.

3) Install only TWO sticks of RAM. One in the slot FARTHEST from the CPU, then skip a slot and then one in the next slot. So, in other words, one in each "Ram bank", farthest from the CPU, so going from the CPU outwards, it's (CPU) --> empty -->RAM --> empty --> RAM. Make sure XMP is enabled and again 1.5v DDR, 0.750 DDR VTT (DDR Termination voltage in Tweaker's paradise, 1.20v VCCIO, 1.25v VCCSA with XMP enabled).

4) doublecheck DDR and DDR Termination voltage (DDR VTT) make sure they did not change values.

5) test test#6 again in memtest. Verify no errors.

6) remove those 2 sticks of RAM and now install the other 2 sticks into the same slots and test those also.

Please verify no errors like this. Report your results.

Using A* and B* slots (those you pointed to) gives each pair of sticks a pass.
However, getting greedy, and wanting to use 4 sticks fails.

That means that it is my system that cannot take the 4 sticks, right?

Did you test each set of 2 sticks in A and B, and both sets worked stable as 2x8 GB sets?

If yes, then you are correct, 4x8 GB will not work with that board at XMP without a BIOS update or some tuning in the BIOS of Skews or other things, and I know nothing about that. Cas 15 is a large ask for a 4x8 GB config anyway.

You can try putting all the sticks in again and setting RAM timings (Primaries) to 16-16-36 (instead of 15/16/36), so CAS will be 16 instead of 15, set voltage DDRV to 1.5v, DDR VTT to 0.750v, VCCIO/SA 1.20v / 1.25v, tRFC to 350, tREFI to 32768 (these will both give you a small speed improvement), and try this.

If you want to panic, go to skews control, and set WR =80, Park to 48, Nom to 40, for each channel so do it twice.
Those are for dual rank 2x16 but you can try it. you have nothing to lose anyway.
