Hello,

I have a question regardin my new hardware.
I have started assembly of new pc using Maximus XIII Hero with i7-11700K and put RTX3090 in 1st pciex slot.
Next step - 2xWD Black SN850 1T.

I know that M.2_1 slot will work in case of 11th gen process (i have it) only, then video card will be in 1st slot as PCIEX16 and as I understood to keep it as x16, I should mount second one WD Black SN850 in M.2_3 (to keep all SATA active)? Is it correct?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Vladi

that is correct when m.2_4 is being used then SATA 5 & 6 are disabled. So make sure you use m.2_3

You might want to test if running your RTX3090 in x8 makes a difference to running it in x16
if it does not make a difference than than you might be better of using it that way and putting your WD Black SN850 in the M.2_2
since the WD Black SN850 is a Gen 4 drive and the M.2_3 is a gen 3 slot (The drive will only have half the bandwidth in that slot)
To my Knowledge the RTX 3000 series don't use the full bandwidth of the x16 on Gen 4 (Even the 3090)
However I don't have personal experience with these Cards (There kinda hard to get at the moment of writing this)

You can however change the slot to run at x8 from the bios so might be worth checking out if there is any difference
