I have the same issues, it seems to be ASUS uses a wrapper. I believe the only way to fix this is updating video drivers from ATI's site, but to do that I think you need to flash the vBios as well... I am not sure though. Have you found a fix?

OMG i get that error too! i have asus F5RL series and i get a blue screen error like that!
the only way i could run minecraft was the the Darows Edit Version. but that stopped me from playing on my account. the online BETA works perfectly but when i try to run the original version, after i login it says loading... then it crashes.
i get the BSOD when i try to play Darows version in fullscreen mode
HAS ANYONE FOUND A WAY TO FIX THIS?

ikon, did you try using the AMD driver instead of the ASUS driver?

Ah sorry I didn't notice that you have a different model of laptop. Do you know whether it has ATI, Nvidia, or Intel graphics? Easiest way would be a sticker on the laptop. Otherwise you can look in the device manager. Depending on Windows version it's different but you can go through the control panel or right click on my computer and go to the hardware tab from the properties option.

One thing that might be happening, might be a HD Texture Pack problem.
If you have Minecraft and use an HD Texture pack like x64 or x128 and Minecraft updates, you have to reapply the HD Mod using MCPatcher.
If you didn't switch to a regular resolution Textre Pack when MC updated, it tries to load the HD Texture Pack, and without running MCPatcher, it sits there at the MC screen and then crashes out.
