I have a best buy G50V that has been working just fine until a couple of weeks ago. It seems the fan was on overdrive for a long time then just stopped. I have cleared out the dust bunnies and it started back up. It still runs very hot though. Is there a utility that will help me control the fan? It seems when it turns off, the computer heats up then slows down considerably. It takes the fan a little while to cool it off then it runs ok again... Should I update the BIOS? I never have done that in the whole time I've owned it.

Thanks,

E

Hmm, there still might be dust in it. You might as well flash to the latest BIOS. A good idea is to upgrade the fan. The fan in your laptop is 13-fin Delta KDB05105HB “7F36” fan. Upgrade that to a 17-fin Forcecon DFS541305MH0T “F8U5” - That's a 'five' at the end, and temps will drop by at least 5 degrees celsius. That fan is in the G50VX/G51j
