Hi Everyone,

Its time for another project. My idea/design to build a desk inside a frame with a glass top and without feet ive done 2 times.

Version 1.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/V1-1.jpg

Version 2.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/Desk2-1.jpg

I dont want to make a third version so now its time for a new design. This time i go for an ergonomic design. So this is the kickoff for my new project The Next Level.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/TheNextLevel2-1.jpg

The idea is to build a design desk that can be adjust in height so everyone can sit at it by simply push a button to move it up or down.My designs always change when im building so here a drawning how its gonna look.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/TheNextLevel3.jpg

The desk will be watercooled and the hardware is not decided yett.More about this later.
I already bought the lifting column and this is how it looks.

Update 8.

Today i started with the foot for the desk.Im gonna use a frame with plastic feet and 2 mount plates for mounting the columns. On top of the frame there will be a cover.

First i cutt the pieces im using for the frame.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/17mrt1.jpg

Then i drilled the holes for the M8 rivet nuts and put them in.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/17mrt2.jpg

These are the plastic feet im gonna use.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/17mrt3.jpg

Then i drilled the holes in the mounting plates for the columns. The holes are 12,5mm and thats the hole i need for a M10 stainless steel welding nut.

Update 11.

This weekend it was time to start working on the cover for the back side. For this i used 3mm aluminium.

First i cut a piece of the right measurements and bend it.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/15April1.jpg

I want the cover to go with the design so i cut the pieces for the corners.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/15April2.jpg

Then i weld the pieces together and did some finishing.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/15April4.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/15April5.jpg

Then i made the side pieces for the cover with the holes in them for the 80mm casefans.I was so busy making them that i already finisht them and then i realised that i forgot to make some pictures. At that point i spotwelded all the pieces together.

Spotwelded the side pieces on the cover and finisht welding them and some sanding ofcourse.

we have 2 water cutting machines at work ( witch i operate ). but the down side is, is that there will be a sharp edge on the under side.
and under pearsing( typo i know ) there can be "sanded" areas, but other then that its a kick ass tool ;) .
we work whit stainles steel ( not 316 or 304 ) more like half magnetic ( and real expensive )

Update 13.

This weekend i made some progress again.First i made the cover for the desk feet.

First i cut the cover.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/12Mei1.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/12Mei2.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/12Mei4.jpg

Because it was not possible to bend the whole cover i had to let to small pieces open.

Looking at the pictures as you were working on the wood top, I remembered that specific wood-smell (not the smell of the solvent for paints!) in the air around wood working shops... LOL, I love it!

I guess then you will let the wood's natural color. What about the lower aluminum parts? What color you will put on?

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/3juni1.jpg

Because the wood gives the desk a more classic look i decide to also use some wood in the inside.I ordered some more wood and i hope it arrives soon.

Time to do some work. The 90 degree reservoirs didnt look right inside the desk so i had to make some new ones.Again a new design. :D

Update 17.

For starters i received a package friday with a second GTX 580.My weekend starts awesome.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/Zotacbanner-1.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/16jun1.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/16jun2.jpg

Thanks a lot ZOTAC and specially Chris.

I also received the oak i have orderd so i can continue with the inside of the desk.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/16jun3.jpg

But first i have to finish the reservoirs.I painted the spacers with bootslak.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/16jun4.jpg

Now its time to make the feet for the reservoirs. For this i cut 2 pieces of stainless steel.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/16jun5.jpg

Then i took some stainless steel and made 6 axles.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/16jun6.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/16jun7.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/16jun8.jpg

The idea was to use only 1 axle per feet but i decided to use 3 axles so i had to drill a few more holes. Then i welded 2 axles on the feet.

Update 20.

Today i made a new housing for the aquaero.Again i used 2mm stainless steel.
The housing is made out of 6 parts.

First i spotwelded, welded and finisht the housing

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/14jul1.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/14jul2.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/14jul3.jpg

Then i made 2 plates for mounting the housing.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/14jul4.jpg

Welded the plates.

In my opinion the housing looks mucg better now and im satisfied with the endresult.

Because Aqua Computer has no backplates for my blocks i made a few backplates myself.

The backplates are made of 2mm stainless steel.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/14jul12.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/14jul13.jpg

Because the blocks have a brused stainless steel plate i want to brush the backplates also.
I used some sanding paper and some scotch brite for this.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/14jul15.jpg

The result.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/14jul19.jpg

Because brushed stainless steel easily stains i painted it with varnish.

Update 21.

After 3 weeks of holiday its time to work on the desk again.Monday its back to work again and today i made a little progress on the details.

First i re made the rad covers.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/Aug4-1.jpg

Then i took a piece of oak and cut it in pieces.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/Aug4-2.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/Aug4-3.jpg

From the pieces i made triangles.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/Aug4-4.jpg

Now thats finisht its time to fit the rad covers.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/Aug4-5.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/Aug4-6.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/Aug4-7.jpg

Time to put the triangles in place.I have 2 options to mount them on the rad covers.

Option 1.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/Aug4-8.jpg

Update 22.

Last saturday i finisht the last cover.I could make a new one but i choose to fix the old one.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/11aug1.jpg

First i cutt the cover to the right lenght.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/11aug2.jpg

Then i cutt a piece of 2mm aluminium.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/11aug3.jpg

Spotwelded the piece on the cover.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/11aug4.jpg

Because the cover is 800 mm long its not wise to weld it in 1 time because you end up with a banana. So i welded the cover with small steps.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/11aug5.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/11aug6.jpg

Some sanding and the cover is done.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/11aug7.jpg

Test fitt.

The fittings.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/11aug14.jpg

The pipe.

I also did a leak test and its all good. :D.

Update 23.

This weekend i did some work on the desk again. To get acces to de back of the desk i need to remove the top cover and then the backcover so i made some changes.

First i measure the piece that has to go.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/1sep2012.jpg

The some cutting and finishing.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/1sep20121.jpg

Test fitting and now i only have to remove the top to get acces to the back section.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/1sep20122.jpg

Then it was time to make the connections i need for the keyboard, mouse and psu.I had some things laying around and they were perfect for this project.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/1sep20123.jpg

Drilled some holes and did some sanding and used M3 thread for mounting.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/1sep20129.jpg

Then i cutt 2 pieces of aluminium and drilled some holes and tapped M3 thread in them.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/1sep20126.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/23sep4_zpsc55b0b7e.jpg

Last saturday i made the psu cover.

First i bend the piece then weld it en at last some finishing.

Then i drilled the holes in the frame and tapped them with m4 thread.

The psu cover mounted on the frame and the psu mounted on the cover.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/23sep10_zpsedf1adb3.jpg

Test fit.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/23sep13_zps686cfc52.jpg

Then i draw a grill and cut it with the lasercutter.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/23sep14_zps3e6b3f69.jpg

Drilled the mounting holes in the cover and tapped them with m3 thread and after that i mounted the grill. This is how it looks at this point.

Update 25.

I worked on the desk from friday to now and if i get it done by 17 Okt then its going to an event.

Here a glimpse of what i did these 3 days.

The controls for the columns are mounted underneath the desk and the chance you would damage it was big so i contect Linak and ask them for other controls.

The new controls.

Update 27.

The last 2 weeks i didnt have much time to work on the desk.Busy time is over so back to work.

First i attached the frame to the backside along with the controlbox and the psu.I also mounted the oak backpanel and the new controls for the columns.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt1.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt2.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt3.jpg

The columns were not used fror some time so i did a little test and made a small movie while testing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMfIEgbqLdg

Then i mounted the cpu block on the motherboard.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt4.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt5.jpg

Mounted the reservoirs and the motherboard on the mobotray.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt6.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt7.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt8.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt9.jpg

Then i start bending the pipes for the first loop.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt10.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt11.jpg

The loop is finisht at this point so then i mounted the gpu block and the backplate.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt12.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt13.jpg

Placed the gpu on the mobo.

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt14.jpg

http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i417/perzikdrank/30okt15.jpg

Next thing to do is instal the second gpu block and backplate and start bending the pipes for the second loop.

More to come.
