Greetings all,

Well, at long last I have made my purchase. This evening I picked up my new G74SX-TS71.

So far I'm happy with my purchase, a little bummed that the laptop backpack wasn't included, but that was the only thing "missing".

I am glad I got model the full HD monitor since it has the Blu-Ray player, the initial audio wasn't insipring, but I plan to try some tips some forum members posted.

I'd say I'm set for awhile, outside of possibly installing a SSD. Looking forward to learning more about my new PC.

Regards

Nice to hear of people still buying the G74. It is a really nice model and te cooling is just awesome. Major improvement over my Dell which hovers around the 85C - 95C. IF you read up on the forums then you should be aware of the small problems that you could possibly face, such as TouchPad problems, keyboard problems, and sleep/hibernating problems just to namea few. But those are small cons as to what this machine provides per buck. Enjoy your purchase and may it prove worthhile.

have fun...... If you plan on updating the BIOS (most likely it already has the newest version - 203) read the proper way to update it via USB/Bios tool

If your having Nvidia driver issues try, 295.73.... has been super reliable for many users..... the "official version 296.16" one from ASUS has had many problems.

I am pretty impressed with the backpack. I got that and the Gaming Mouse with my G53.
Such a deal!

Thanks everyone. Looking to get more familiar with my G74 this weekend (updates and such).

Any advice on antivirus that have worked well on the G74's?

I use Norton 360 on my "old" laptop (that I'm currently using), and never had an issue.

If there's any antivirus that should work well on a Windows OS,
it has to be the Microsoft Security Essentials.
