Hi guys, I recently download a GPU Meter from gadget gallery -
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-SG/windows/downloads/personalize/gadgets

I notice that the fanspeed rpm is always at 0rpm and Fan usage is always 0% during gaming/websurfing (temps 40-high 70s)
I thought perhaps at these temperature my card wasnt hot or stress enough for the fan to kick in, so i downloaded furmark and did a 5min run test which my gpu hit 92-93 degrees celcius and according to the Gpu meter its still at 0rpm/0%.

So is the meter broken or my fan? please advice

Hi

I would believe that the program itself you are useing is wrong or something, so go to this thread: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?5224-Drivers-Apps-and-How-to-s&country=&status= and look for HWinfo64.

Run that program and see if it still says 0% and 0 RPM when HWinfo64 is reading it.

Do you feel warm air coming out of the grille on the back? If so, your fans are working....if not, they aren't.

It's unlikely that the fans are not working at all, since a computer will overheat fairly quickly with no cooling. You'd be posting a whole different question about frequent random shutdowns if that were the case...... ;)

tyvm brody. i guess the fans are working then. cos it sounds like a ferrari exhaust during furmark and intense gaming compared to idle/websurfing. I sometimes use it to blow dry my hair after shower... and cook eggs during furmark :)

just wondering, at what temp does the gpu have to hit before the fans starts kicking in? and are my temps ok? Wowing/gaming temps can go from 60s to mid/high 70s.

ps: my g74 is about 2months old

I think the fans are running whenever the computer is on, but their idle speeds are so slow that you don't really hear them. I've never seen threshhold temps specified for fan level changes.

Those temps seem normal to me. Idle temps in the 40s to 50s are typical, and then gaming temps can go up quite a bit from there.

ok thanks alot brody. you have been really helpful. seen lots of your pro advice and post in this forum.
my idle temps ard 39-40+.

One last question, im currently using 296.10 drivers downloaded directly from nvidia site, whats the diff between 296.10 and the 296.16 drivers from Asus site? Should i get the Asus drivers or stick to the nvidia ones? thanks again =)
