I have the g75 bbk5 from best buy, I am wondering if I install 1 8gb stick of ram will it work as well as 2 4gb sticks?

also what brand and speed does ASUS recommend?

I looked but I could not find anything that clearly states this

It will work with two 4GB sticks, but ideally you're best off adding an extra 2x4GB to match. Brand used is often down to the retailer, but you need 1600MHz 1.5V DIMM.

2x4 GB will be faster than 1x8 GB, since it will run in dual-channel mode. Better yet, if you have the money, get 2x8 GB, and really have some RAM :). While you're at it, put in an SSD to make that system sing, if it doesn't have one already. 128 GB SSD's are now ~$100-$150, so they aren't so badly priced. The 256 GB ones are still a little pricey.

Will the extra ram really help, I mean I have 8GB right now with a max of 16GB, so If I add 16GB extra will it be better or just useless?

Thank you MarshallR@ASUS for the help, I know what speed to buy, now just how much more Ram.

This just became my secound fav. forum right after svrider.com

and the only reason that is, is because I have been riding a lot longer than I have owned an ASUS.

CORSAIR Vengeance 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

or

Crucial

Package: 204-pin SODIMM
Feature: DDR3 PC3-12800
Specs: DDR3 PC3-12800 CL=11 Unbuffered NON-ECC DDR3-1600 1.5V

Either one should be fine ... I think my upgrade to add 2 x 4 gb samsung 1600 was around 30 bucks at microcenter ... prices float around a little week by week ... ( as microcenter now shows this a little higher ) ... often big stores like microcenter ( or others ... not so many around anymore eh? ) have daily/weekly specials on stuff like this at below advertised pricing ...
