View Full Version : G75 dead-on-arrival // had to pay 15% "restocking" charge

Hi

My G75VW-DS71 arrived with following problems:

- no display backlight
- no display output (internal or external)
- no sound
- case put together incorrectly
- screen bezel loose

ASUS support confirmed this is a known manufacturing fault.
These units *should* have been recalled ...
I have to pay 15% "restocking" charge
which means retailers are making a profit from these faults!

Purchasing this laptop was a terrible mistake that has cost me $300 + return shipping charges + payment charges + time wasted.

Please don't make the same mistake, look elsewhere.

What retailer exactly did you purchase that unit from?

I'm curious too! Weird that you would have to pay a "restocking" fee when the unit is broke. I would hope they wouldn't "restock" that unit and send it out to another person!

It shows you how important it is to know your retailer's exchange/return policy BEFORE you purchase....

1) If you purchased with a credit card, dispute the charge with the credit card company, that's bogus to have to pay a restocking fee for a DOA unit.
2) Report that retailer to the Better Business Bureau.

I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but I ordered a G75VW-TS72 from Tigerdirect on May 22nd, and after 2 inquiries on the status of the order, they are still waiting on "units to arrive from the manufacturer"...has anyone else had to wait this long?

The retailer (EXcaliberPC.com) has agreed to waive the restocking fee in this case.

Everybody who RMAs equipment should note the serial numbers in the forums ... to protect others.

I was told that a bad batch of G75s were manually "fixed" and these have entered distribution.
The many reports of G75s arriving with unclosed cases seems to confirm this.

Looks like prices at that "retailer" are above the current market prices ... did you shop around?

I would think about returning it and buying elsewhere personally.

A quick look makes me think they might be holding old inventory and continuing to try to sell it off above "going" rates ...

Who is this "many" you state? I have a few friends who have all picked up the G75 and experienced NO issues.

I feel for your situation with having a faulty product delivered to you. Don't go attacking a product due to a single experience.
This happens in production. That is why retailers provide return policies and manufacturers provide warranties.

Go troll on another forums..

thank you,

P.S. We have plenty in stock and on shipments here in the US.

Many believe G75 production has temporarily ceased due to quality concerns.

This is simply not true at all. Plus, problems occur - sure - but it's the same with any product. What you see here is a small fraction of what we sell globally. Those people never make it to ROG. I really wish they would - it would make my stats look great!

Where did you buy it? You'll never pay a restocking fee for DOA product. Call trading standards if you feel it's unacceptable. It's not a policy we employ.

Simple facts:

- I purchased a G75VW-DS71
- It arrived DOA
- Case was open
- Screen bezel was bulging and loose
- Internal and External video was non-functional
- No sound at any point

It is ASUS responsibility to ship tested working products.
They are not doing so.
This is an indication of a serious problem at ASUS.

The volume of problem reports on the Internet related to G75s is staggering.

There is clearly a serious quality issue. Yes SOME of these laptops are working CURRENTLY.

But within a few months many of those units will most likely also exhibit problems.

I am just doing my duty as a consumer to other consumers - protect yourselves - research this product thoroughly before you buy it - ensure you are protected in the event of receiving a faulty unit (free return shipping, no restocking charges, full refund, compensation for time wasted etc.)

Don't make the same mistake I made ... DON'T BE OPTIMISTIC

You are getting pretty boring mr "amazing" ... just being honest.

The big mistake you made is apparently buying from a retailer and not understanding the retailers return/exchange policy.

If you lost money here on the shipping for a defective unit that is between you and the retailer.

If you are willing to let them charge you for sending back a defective unit and re-sending a replacement that is an expensive mistake that you are choosing to make.

Sounds like you are confused about who you should be mad at.

Never purchase anything as expensive as this without a solid understanding of return/exchange/shipping policies and expenses in place.

The retailer did nothing wrong.

They delivered a factory-sealed G75 to me at a fair price.

It arrived without any transport-damage.

They have waived their standard restocking fee.

I can't expect them to pay for the international shipping ...

The only party that is at fault here is ASUS for producing faulty and untested units.

I knew I took a risk - buying long distance - but I thought the risk of receiving a faulty unit would be around 1 in 10,000

After thoroughly examining posts from G75 owners on multiple forums I can see a clear picture.

Now I believe the risk of receiving a faulty unit is more like 1 in 5.

Thanks to ASUS quality problems I have now paid $350 in shipping charges, had to fill in reams of US Customs paperwork and my work is delayed and I still have $1750 of my money stuck in USA.

ASUS is to blame, nobody else.

I used to work in a computer shop. We made computers. We had a thing called "testing".
The idea is you check that the computer is fully working before you send it to the customer.
This helped us maintain a good reputation and good profit margins.

If ASUS can send me a G75VW-DS71
which can pass a basic acceptance test and function without issue for 12 months

I will pay them $3000

But if the unit fails within 12 months ... all the ASUS homepages globally must display a youtube video of my choosing for 30 days
