View Full Version : G74SX Bad Fan?

I've had my G74SX-BBK7 for about 7 months now and as of yesterday, I have a very loud noise coming from the upper right part of the keyboard.

My temperatures have increased as well. I'm idling at 2400 RPM CPU Fan with all cores above 58C. (Even my GPU is idling at 58C.)

That is a video I recorded of the sound. Does anyone have any idea on what I should do? Would a manufacturers warranty be an option?

If your getting a noise, and temp is high also. Sounds like a fan issue, and would be covered by warranty.... how does the air flow feel ? ( keep in mind 1/3 of the rear vents is blocked off for the battery)

Have you ever blown out your fan exhausts with a can of compressed gas? That might be all you need at this point.

In your video, your recorder is very close to the keyboard. You need to move it back where your head would normally be after the closeup. You also do not speak in a normal voice to give a volume reference, so it is difficult to judge the severity of your fan noise issue.

it sounds like a bad bearing.... the fans shouldn't make any noise like that, only thing you should hear is the air flow...... that how mine are still, and I am at 9 months..... I haven't cleaned my vents, only a 2-3 degree increase (would vary with dust environment of course) in temp. For it to be dust, it would increase over a gradual period. RMA it ( if compressed air doesn't fix) , PM mason@ASUS if u have any issues with RMA. Good luck with it.

Apologies for not speaking and keeping it further away in the video.

I just got done blasting the vents with compressed air and dust was spewing out. I still have the buzzing noise however.

I'll PM mason@ASUS about my RMA; they gave me a number but no email with instructions on how to do so. Thanks.
