Hi,

I'm looking into buying a monitor, and I cant find out, if my G73 would be able to do 1440p via HDMI connection.
Would I be able to get 1440p via HDMI to HDMI?
Would I be able to get 1440p via HDMI to HDMI-to-Dual-DVI converter
Any other way to get 1440p from G73?

From AMD website, i get the following about my Mobility 5870:
Integrated dual-link DVI output with HDCP
Max resolution: 2560x1600
Integrated DisplayPort output
Max resolution: 2560x1600
Integrated HDMI 1.3 output with Deep Color, xvYCC wide gamut support, and high bit-rate audio
Max resolution: 1920x1200
Integrated VGA output
Max resolution: 2048x1536

So it seems that GPU can support that resolution, but as my G73 only has HDMI and VGA, is there a way i can do it?

Thanks a lot for all your help!

Um, no. HDMI only supports up to 1080/1200p . That's why more and more vendors are going to route of DisplayPort, which can drive 1600p displays easily, and sometimes higher.

it is a very interesting question that never crossed my mind upon buying my g74.. i spend 2hrs on the web reading about this.
according to this (http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/668785-2560x1440-asus-g73.html) zygomorphic is right.
HDMI 1.0 to 1.2 supports19201200p60, the 11.3 supports 25601600p75 and 1.4 supports 40962160p24
Does anybody knows what hdmi version packs on the g74, btw?

What seems to be the 'not so bad news part' is that the good old VGA supports up to 2048x1536px @85 Hz (388 MHz), and rarely 2560x1920 @63 Hz.

I think it is 1.3, but it might be 1.4. My G53SX can output (supposedly) 1080p @120Hz for 3D vision via HDMI. That would mandate at least 1.3, but 1.4, considering the power of these computers, is entirely possible. There is nothing in the manual specifying which it is. Anyone have hardware access or another way of testing it?

Absolutely AWESOME! That is great to know that my laptop supports the latest HDMI. Honestly, though, it doesn't really surprise me.

Yes, the G74 has HDMI 1.4. It also has 4K support, according to this link:
http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_1_4/4K.aspx

And to quote the site:

"How to Ensure 4K functionality in your Home Theater System

*Look for devices that support 4K functionality.
*All High Speed HDMI cables will support 4K functionality when connected to 4K devices.
You can use your existing High Speed HDMI cables or choose a different cable type."
