View Full Version : Various G75 Problems

Hopefully I can get an answer in the next 24 hours (I'm technically past my return policy, but might get a 5 day extension)

I've had this since May 5th, I've had a myriad of problems ranging from BSOD's to Sound/Video problems so I figured maybe I could make a nice long post and get some help from the board.

1) 4 BSOD's since purchase.

3 of my BSOD's were Video driver related (sadly I cannot remember the exact error, but I believe I fixed them by using a modified inf to force the latest unified driver in... gg nvidia there)

The latest one was a KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR that I'm not 100% sure if it has been fixed by a simple CHKDSK upon reboot or not.

2) Static from sound, more noticeable from voices.

This is just annoying. Listening to youtube videos, TED talks, or anything with a semi-sharp voice (including in-game sounds in DotA 2 from characters), there is a rather extreme static that accompanies it. I have tried with headphones, the static is there too. For the longest time I thought it was the speakers or Subwoofer, but now I'm leaning towards an audio driver/hardware problem. I've updated VIA HD Audio Dock to the "best" version (the one that fixes the input detection, subwoofer not getting quiet when lowering volume problems), but the problem persists.

3) Significant stuttering while playing Diablo 3 and occasionally DotA 2 and Deus Ex.

This is just annoying. Completely randomly the games will freeze, and 3 times have lead to a Blue Screen. The KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR listed above occurred while playing Diablo 3. The game would freeze up (playing in fullscreen windowed mode), I could alt+tab, talk on skype of my sadness that my computer is causing problems again, Alt+tab back into the game, click, and get the BSOD. The previous 3 also occurred while playing games, twice with D3, once with WoW. I don't know what is causing this problem either, but hopefully someone can shed some light on this too.

I've been an avid ASUS supporter for years. The desktop next to me has ASUS video cards and motherboard in it, and I am rather upset that a nearly $1300 purchase has been causing insane amounts of trouble for me. I expected this from the lower brands, and non-gaming specific computers, but not from what was labeled as one of the best laptops out there.

I will appreciate any advice/recommendations/general support for the problems, I will even list below (since I doubt many will actually read this far if they weren't willing to help) everything I have going on right now:

AVAST Internet Security
Zimbra Desktop
All other ASUS programs (except Live Update)
Chrome (using to type this)
VIA HD Audio Deck

The KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR bug check indicates that the requested page of kernel data from the paging file could not be read into memory. How have you configured the Windows paging file on your system?

Since you are up against the limit of your exchange/return policy, I would recommend performing an ASUS Factory Recovery to return your system to stock configuration. If your issues persist, I recommend exchanging or returning the laptop for a refund.

It's whatever the default would've been. I honestly can't remember where to go to locate that :/

EDIT: Of course afterwards I find it. It's set at 8151 MB (if it's what i'm thinking you're asking) and set up for the computer to change it as needed

That's not the issue then. I would proceed with the ASUS Factory Restore to return your system to stock configuration. If you still have speaker static, video issues, or BSOD's, return the laptop. Don't let anyone talk you into an RMA for Warranty Repair. Once you do that, the laptop with its problems are then YOUR problems. Let ASUS and the retailer sort it out.

I am always amazed by this .. I understand it .. have done it myself .. 'gonna Make it work' .. but
for me with New Equipment ...Any new equipment .. first sign that 'This One' is not 100% ...
back it goes for another .... why not ? Thats the deal from the manufacturer to the retailer to
the consumer ... back to the retailer .. back to the manufacturer (most time wholesaled lots)

as Dstrakele suggests : Send It Back !!! Get a fresh one, start the clock over.

So I'm sitting here right now listening to the SAME video I was watching earlier on wimp.com and was having the static problem. I no longer have that problem. I didn't reboot, I didn't do anything since I watched it earlier and it's fine. I'm going through a few more videos just to see if it was a fluke or not, but they all seem fine. Part of me doesn't want to restore this thing to factory settings since that'd mean I get to reinstall about 250 gigs worth of stuff, but if it starts back up later today I guess I'll deal with Best Buy, see if they'll give me a 15 day extension so I can back everything up and risk getting another one :/

Sad that it MIGHT have to come to that :/

Save yourself some time and effort in the future. When you get a new electronic gadget, you should test it rigorously in stock configuration during the exchange/return period to make the decision if you're going to keep it or return it, keeping installations and modifications to a minimum. If you make the decision to keep it, then you can start installing and modifying in earnest.

Once you start making changes to a system, it becomes difficult to determine if its the changes that are causing the problems, or if you have a truly defective unit.

Power supply is in a brand new power strip that says it's grounded. I'm actually sitting here right now with a video with tons of talking to see if i can replicate the static, and of course i can't.

On the (awesomely) bright side: I called Best Buy, talked to the GM, and he said he'll give me the full 60 days to do an exchange if the problem persists. Must be the bright side of spending almost $10k there in the past 3 years =)

I appreciate the help and I think I'm gonna only do a restore IF the problems come back. I'm happy that I stumbled upon this place and found a lot of other little things to make this thing run better too =D

So problem with audio popping (figure that's a more accurate term) doesn't seem to occur until I load a game. Once I load a game, the audio starts popping every now and then.... Time to start that backup

See if you can reproduce the issue in stock configuration with the same video and game installed - no other additions.
