Hello all, I have been lurking around these forums all day because I am seriously considering buying a G75 laptop.

I have compared a few on Newegg (NS-71), Amazon (AS-71, DS-71), and Frys (FS-71) (all recommended by ASUS), and I went to BestBuy yesterday to check out what they have in stock.

Where did you guys bought your machines? I'm trying to find the best bang for my buck.

Thanks.

I got mine from Best Buy. Was the cheapest of the available configurations at the time (when it first released) and I believe it may still be. Sure the 1TB HDD is 5400 RPM but with the savings you get, you can easily afford to get an SSD and an 8GB memory upgrade kit. I didn't care for 3D and I wanted the 660M over the 670M so that's why I went with it.

Mines from Best Buy also ... do not forget to include in your budget an SSD ( at least 120 gb ... 180 gb or 256 recommended if you can swing that much more ).

Check carefully to make sure yours has the 1080p display as the rumor is/was that in some places Best Buy had a 1600 x 900 model?

I bought mine from Newegg. I got the NS-72 version with the 3720QM processor, SSD, and 670M. It's a beast for sure and runs great. I'm not sure how much money you want to spend but the NS72 is $2169, and the NS71 is $1449. Right now they are offering a free Everki Titan Bag with the purchase of a NS71 so that is pretty sweet. Here is the link to the NS71 on Newegg.com:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230408

Comes with the 3610QM, 12g DDR3 Ram @1600Mhz, 500g HD @7200rpm, GTX 670.
Might just want to add in a SSD as a boot drive at some point in the future, but specs look good and there is good feedback from owners on the site if you want to read them.

Good luck finding the right G75, and welcome to ROG Forums!

Yup that's the exact one I was looking at on Newegg, the bag looks like a good freebie. And as for what the others said about BestBuy, my local store only had the 15" model, not the 17.3, and I was very aware of the resolution of the screens as the 1080x1920 is a huge deal to me since I use AutoCAD and other high res programs.

I'll probably end up going with the Newegg choice since I am looking in the $1500 price range and not the $2000+ range.

As for an SSD, I will probably pick one of those up too.

Thanks for the help guys, this is my first day on this forum and I can tell once I buy my comp, I will be back to stay.

Guys... it's absolutely STUPID to get it from bestbuy. They use lower component parts...

Here's a good place to buy the G75 if you're in the USA:

http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=prod6770047&searchTerm=g75vw

but if you want the cheaper version (with slower, albeit bigger hdd space, and a slower GPU), here's the bestbuy link:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+17.3%26%2334%3B+Laptop+-+8GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive/5176239.p?id=1218621250769&skuId=5176239

and here's a link for the G55.

http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=prod6770053&searchTerm=g55vw

I believe that is the cheapest G55 you'll ever find anywhere in the USA in new condition with an outstanding (3 month return policy) store warranty.

Do you have a source for this claim?

So Asus is going to consciously deliberately put lower quality stuff in the ( very large number of ) units sold to Best Buy?

Thats about as far out a weird fabrication as I have ever heard! Creative though ...

What Best Buy is trying to do by offering a reduced manufacturer warranty is sell you up to their own ( extra profit ) warranty. Best Buy tries to sell you an extended warranty on absolutely everything including 23 dollar toasters.

Believe it or not it is the exact same stuff that goes into the asus models sold everywhere.

Different distributors do request different mixes of stuff ( graphics cards, how many hard drives, an SSD included or not, etc ) and price them at what makes sense to them ... obviously with some involvement from Asus marketing.
