Hi peeps,

I'm hoping this is driver related. First of all let me explain. Sometimes before I play a game or load music/video I will hear a little pop in the speakers and find that Center audio gets moved to a different speaker and then all the other speakers don't match where they should be. Front left becomes rear left and so on.

To fix this I have to select a different speaker config and then select 5.1 again which fixes the issue. I have moved my card to a different slot, it's now in a 8x slot where it was in a 1x slot at first. Problem is still there. Cleaned my 3.5mm audio jacks and checked all speaker connections. Problem still happens.

Anyone else getting this?

Have all of you with this issue filled out a bug support form and emailed it in or contacted support to create a support ticket? Because if you haven't, it is unlikely to be patched. Just coming to the forum and making a post won't be enough.

I had the same deal when I tried moving my card to the 16x slot on my rive to "fix" the bf3 problems. It ended up having more problems after the move. same snap and the front and rear sides all would get switched around. You'd have to go into the sound card settings and manually switch from 5.1 to stereo then back again for it to work properly. Only to have it switch back 2 minutes later. I moved my card back to the grey slot on my mobo and it hasn't done it since. It's pretty crazy how an analog 5.1 can switch around if the 3.5's are plugged into the proper jacks.

It suck to have that problem, when it first happened to me i was like WTF??? lol

I have had the problem in 8x and 1x.. I'm gonna leave the card in the 8x (furthest away from GPU) and test the new drivers. If I still get the problem then I'll raise the issue. I just hope they release a changelog - any chance of this Raja?

A changelog for the new driver? Of course.

I will suggest this one last time for all in this thread. Fill out a bug report form and email it in to the address and also contact ASUS Support and raise a support ticket. Unless you do that it is unliekly to be patched as all relevant info needs to be given to HQ for them to recreate and then patch an issue. Just coming to the forum and making a few posts is not the way to get a fix for an issue. People keep coming here and making half-posts about their problems and somehow expect every one of thier bugs to be addressed in the upcoming driver release without contacting ASUS support or emailing in a form citing the issues. I can tell you that is not the way things work.

Detailed Failure and Conditions When loading games I sometimes hear a small pop in the speakers followed by a mismatch in audio output… such as Center speaker gets moved to a different speaker. Left front becomes left back and so on. The only way to resolve this is to switch from 5.1 to stereo and back again. I have had my card in slot 1x and 8x and both fail.

Hi raja, so if I am the only one to log the fault then will it be listened to and investigated even though others have the fault but can't be bothered filling in the form?

It will be read. The rest I can't say for sure as I don't handle that side of things. I urge everyone who reports a bug to report it. If a bug is found to be common it is more likely to be patched.

Just learnt that the Phoebus used 2 chips to control the analogue output.. 1 controls the front speakers and 1 controls rear and center/sub.. I think the problem is to do with the driver getting confused (so to speak).

Come on guys raise the issue with ASUS so we can get it fixed.

Raja@ASUS

I have alerted HQ to it. But yes, we need lots of config setups to make sure we can replicate it properly.

Im also having issues with mismatched speakers however, for my mismatch my front right is being played from the subwoofer and the front right is being routed to the center speaker, i've already sent an bug report with my information and i can only hope that a possible driver update will be available soon

Okey so i bought this card about 2 months ago, i thought this would be fixed with the latest drivers that were released 3 weeks ago but it didn't help!
My rear speakers goes to the front, my center speaker goes to the rear left and my sub takes the rear right. How the hell is this even possible?
I recently re-installed my whole system, formated drive and all!
Seems like you had this problem 5 years ago to with the Xonar DX!

Are you guys working on it?

Same issue here using the latest drivers. Funny thing is, everything was fine with the Beta drivers, although that also had it's own issues.

This can be related to my BF3 problem.
Can you check something?

1.Try to enable DTS UltraPC2 (all Enchancement,Surround Sensation,Symmetry/boost checkboxes OFF).
Try game.

2.Try to exit Phoebus UI(right button on tray icon)->Exit
Than go to Windows sound setting window:
Control Panel View by Category -> Change System Sounds, Manage Audio Devices->Speakers Asus xonar Phoebus->Effects tab->enable checkbox "Disable all effects"->OK
Try game.

P.S.
My BF3 problem is still not fixed.

And what am i looking for?

There're a number of things can go wrong. If you have time you can try these steps:
1. Uninstall the Phoebus driver software (uninstall from [Control Panel]->[Uninstall a program]->[ASUS Xonar Phoebus...]), let Windows install the default audio driver automatically. See if the problem still exist. This can clarify if the problem is in hardware.
2. After Phoebus software installed, do the #2 step that AVtemp suggested and see if the problem still exist. This can clarify if the problem is in kernel-mode part or the user-mode part of the driver software.
3. Try different software like games, media players, etc. If not all software having the problem and there might be clues where the problem really is.

Okey, ill try that later or when i have the time!
It's definatley not different softwares, it happens when i use VLC, Spotify, Youtube and games!

Phoebus is controlled by software.
It has one main chip (CMI8888/DMS/DHT) and few amplifires.
Those "2 chips" ..VeNoM.. mentioned about are simple amplifires, they can`t be getting confuse.
BTW this click sound you hear with OS start is rele swithing one of those 2 amplifires (headphone amp or speaker main channel amp).
All this sound bugs is pure software\drivers problems.

Same problems here...
If I make a sound test, everything works. Also vidoes are OK regarding 5.1
However, once I start a game in conjunction with Dolby Digital, my center shifts from the center box in the right-front box!
Whether Toslink or three miniJacks! nothing ... the sound issue is and remains wrong!

Motherboard: Asrock x79 Extreme11

You mean when you turn on Dolby Digital, all 5.1-channel sound source (speaker test, video,...) worked but games are not?

Yes!
Everything works, but f1 2012 and BF3 the center is in right front!

I freakin finally found out where the problem came from.
To get the real 5.1 surround you need to put Dolby Home Theater ON, but when you do, you also activate these other crapfeatures like Volume Leveler and Surround Virtualizer..
Turned the surround Virtualizer off (and the other crap too), problem solved!

If this fix it for anyone else post here so we can be sure!!!

What? You mean that you only have this problem when Dolby is turned on? Have you mentioned that before?

dotque
05-22-2013, 08:00 AM
No i mean that i have the problem when the Surround Virtualizer is turned on in Dolby.
You need to have Dolby Turned on to get the 5.1 to work!
Mentioned what before?! Did you read my previous post "I freakin finally found out wh.." ?

Thanks dotque!! I solved my problem by activating the Dolby application as you did, which can be reached through the ASUS Phoebus application (right click on the speaker symbol in the ASUS Phoebus application and choose Dolby). After doing this my 5.1 setup works as it should!

Same problem here. New win 8.1 64 install and it even happens with Windows own drivers -_- Went from a Titanium card because of the terrible drivers. And now i find out Asus has worse drivers. So far, most terrible 120 bucks i ever spent :(

I have same problem. while navigation on internet, sound is pop and after no sound. I have to switch to stereo and come back to 5.1 for the sound to come back.

It's incredible that ASUS is not doing anything to fix this bug that has been around for quite some time.

To tell you, this card is beautiful but I start to regret my old creative soundblaster Z with whom I did not have all these worries.

The technical support told me to install the unified drivers on : http://maxedtech.com/asus-xonar-unified-drivers/#downloads

except that it says : The following cards won’t work and will not be supported with UNi Xonar Drivers: ASUS Xonar U1, U3, U5, U7, EssenceOne, Essence STU, AE 7.1, ROG Phoebus, ROG Thunderbolt and D-Kara; ASUS Strix cards.

So it's not compatible with xonar phoebus. LOL

I start to look very closely the Creative Sound BlasterX AE-5

ASUS will not release new drivers. She is completely abandoned.
