Hi all,
I have been having trouble with my g55vw's fans, they became noisy and sometimes make the noise as if I there was a paper in the way/obstructing. Therefore, I have decided that I should open my baby up and clean or see what is wrong. The thing is I am terrified about breaking it, so I was wondering if somebody could post a guide or some images about how to access the fans to clean. I don't want to unscrew more than needed, and I need to know which screws to unscrew, you know to minimize exposure or potential problems.
Thank you a lot!

There should be a panel on the bottom that you remove to gain access to the fan filters. Try looking in the computer manual to see what it says. I know that the G75 has user-accessible fan filters, so I would assume that the G55 (Similar design) has the same feature.

Not a very easy task. In fact comething like this would take me hours.

G55 does not have a filter system as G75 does. I'm not even sure how effective that is anyway.

Try sticking a straightened paper clip into the fan to hold it still, then blowing the fans out with canned air. If you don't hold the fan blades steady, you can destroy the motor with the high RPMs. Try gently shaking the computer when it is off and listening for rattles. If nothing rattles around, then you are looking at a possibly damaged fan motor. The buzzing may be due to a blade scraping against something internally.

just leave all the screws in, stick a bowie knife in there and pry upwards, also, when you reattach it, i find its best to just set it in place and give it a good smack w/ the largest hammer you can find.

Ah...hammer therapy, good for the emotions...not so much for the computer...always seems to result in extra parts that just appeared...;)

My G55 is making the same noise. Asus told me to RMA because it is most likely a fan, but couldn't give me a timeline on how long it would take and also told me that i would be responsible for paying to ship my computer to them after spending 1500+ dollars on it just 30 days ago. I told them i won't do it and that their warranty is an absolute joke.

Get in touch with @Marshall or @Raja, they will take care of you. I believe the ASUS warranty terms do indeed state that the buyer pays shipping, which doesn't bother me...since my computer doesn't break->see my sig! ;)

So any news on cleaning this puppy? I want to be able to flush out the fans because it's getting a tad noisy

I have that same noise problem as well, but it does not seem to impair the cooling effect of the fan though, so at least that's something.
I'm considering replacing the fan myself, but i'm afraid to use excessive force when i have to open it up.
And since the supplier would like a picture of the current fan (apparently there are several fan models used in the g55vw) - that brings back the problem of opening it up without damaging the case.

However, i did notice something weird, i opened up the back panel (where the speakers are) because i wanted to check how dirty it was.
To my suprise, there was missing a screw on the tiny raised center PCB (can't replace it without removing the keyboard), so... Is that screw wrecking havoc with the fan?

Still hasn't broken - 11 months more! :)

As to the screw messing with the fan, that is very plausible, provided that the screw is actually with the fan, and the empty screw hole wasn't empty in the first place.

Ok, i think i know what the problem is :)

The paper sound you hear is the isolation plastic placed between the fan casing(s) and the motherboard.
It is glued (or perhaps some custom adhesive plastic?) to the motherboard but, it can get a bit loose, and it makes a "paper rattle" sound because of the airflow.
Hence, the faster the fans go, the higher is the sound it makes.

Here is a picture i've taking of my board :

IF there is something wrong with either of your fans, you would notice it quite easily by having one of the most unstable systems you can think of.

There is a great "basic" video on how to take the G55 apart.

Note there is a big chunk in the middle of the video where nothing happends, just skip it.
