07-27-2012, 09:02 AM
In our continuing effort to build better products and get to know you lot, we'd like some feedback from our G series users :D

1) What type of games do you play on your G series?
2) What is your preferred peripheral setup?

Thanks everyone!

I've played SW:TOR and TF2 on my G73. There are others but I can't think of them now.
I pretty much have to use a mouse and headphones or I won't bother playing.

Almost Tactful

1) Mainly Starcraft 2

Mouse - Logitech G9
Keyboard - HHKB Pro 2
Headphoens - Logitech G930

The internal keyboard and touchpad are really terrible (my keyboard flexes a few millimetres, so obviously has no plate...). ASUS should consider selling without keyboard and touchpad since they really are useless. USB and other ports are not in the best placement, mouse has to be a bit further away than I would like.

@Mrwolf: You got in the the Planetside 2 beta? Not sure how you can judge an MMO on the beta alone....

07-28-2012, 03:26 PM
@Gorman: Yea man, i got into the technical test, the beta isnt out for another couple of weeks :) lol yea i know i cant judge yet, but im a big planetside 1 fan and right now in its current state, i gotta say man planetside 2 makes battlefield 3 look like crap in terms of graphics and gameplay ;) cant wait till the open beta is out so we have more people populating the servers..

- FPS, RTS, RPG. I have finished on G55 and G75 Battlefield 3 and Max Payne 3 for testing.

- a bunch o Logitech multimedia, not sure exactly what models.

Another bunch of external HDDs.

I agree, on the right the USB placement is terrible. I had to put my laptop on something to be a little bit higher so I could use the mouse. Keyboard is just fine for me on both of them. If these flex, I guess others bend.

@zyg Nar, I wish. I have a son who just loves gaming and I usually do the tech stuff, we LAN often. My brain goes AWOL when changing some games. I try to do things with keys that don't work the same. Gotta love different key mappings. I managed 21 kills in Tribes Sunstar map yesterday playing a Jugg, I am happy with that for an old fart. I figure if I am going to spend a good swag of money on a G75 I may as well test it out.

07-31-2012, 12:13 AM
Attaboy! Attaboy! Use that hardware, make it work! ;)

08-01-2012, 04:37 AM
All sorts of steam titles as I can afford to buy them.
Left 4 Dead
Counter-Stike and/source
Doom 3

Others played more often
StarCraft II

Not so often but loved

*I want to update my game library, I want L4D2, Bioshock 2, Fallout 3 or NV, Metro 2033, Skyrim, RUSE, Rage. (that was not in order) And I would like to point out that I have not updated my gaming library in so long because I have not had a computer in a long time that could handle it, now I feel like I do.

Typical setup

Headphones or external speakers till sub issue is fixed, but for games like SC2 I just use the laptop speakers because directional sound is not as important.

External mouse is first option

Built-in keyboard is first option; if I am at certain places desk and chair arrangements make it easier to use external keyboard.

Well I got the laptop for when I'm away, so gaming was a bit of a priority.

Games mostly played:

Borderlands , Justcause 2 , Dead Island , Payday the heist , Skyrim , Oblivion , "Cod 4 , WaW and Blackops" , Bulletstorm , Sanctum , Mx vs Atv.

When available Borderlands 2 , Blackops 2 , Alien Colonial Marines .

Hardware : Razer Deathadder mouse , external 2.5" drives

It is my 1st laptop. Only thing I dislike is the touchpad.
As I've said before the audio on this is good (I just had a hearing test ,good results no loss ) , no problems here, could be louder thats all.
Maybe a bigger battery so it can last longer (not gaming) for general use.

1) What type of games do you play on your G series?
2) What is your preferred peripheral setup?

Thanks everyone!

1) Single player games usually RPG, FPS and puzzle games. Examples: Prototype 1+2, Skyrim, Alan Wake, Binding of Isaac, Deus Ex:HR, Fallout Series, GTA 4, all the various Source Games.

I will not play anything that is exclusive to EA's Origin or even if Origin is requirement to run but I will buy games from any other retailer or digital distribution source. I also really have no interest in games like Battlefield, Call of Duty and Modern Warfare.

2) Logitech G500 and headphones or if I don't feel like turning on my desktop I will connect it via HDMI to my TV and Surround then use my ThermalTake keyboard and G500 mouse.

Peripherals: Razer Naga.

08-10-2012, 09:32 PM
Right now just Skyrim ( heavely modded ) , loved GTA4 in xbox , tried on this laptop but lag was horrible .

08-11-2012, 01:39 AM
Got into playing Microsoft hearts! Woo hoo! Hard core gamer me! :p

08-11-2012, 07:21 AM
I mostly play TF2 recently, after a very long break from first playing it right after release on the Xbox 360. Getting into it a lot more with all the different weapons and frequent updates now.

As for peripherals, I've got some cheap, generic wireless mouse; some cheap, generic wireless keyboard; and a not-so cheap, not-so generic external display/USB splitter. I mainly just use the last one for the larger display rather than the USB hub thing, but it was a gift so I figured I'd use it rather than buy a regular monitor.

08-11-2012, 12:49 PM
Guild Wars 2 (soon)

Other in less frequent rotation:
Tera online
Lineage 2
RoM ;)

Using only external mouse: A4Tech X710 and bluetooth Nokia headphones :)

08-13-2012, 10:51 AM
Champions Online
Star Trek Online
Civilization IV
Supreme Commander
EverQuest II

I use the keyboard that comes with my new G75VW and a Logitech trackball mouse - connected by wire USB

08-13-2012, 02:50 PM
1) MMOs, RPGs, FPS,
-Saints Row 3
-Prototype 2 (recently got a 3D tv this ones fun to play in 3D)
-DC Universe
-WoW (tried it lost interest)
-Starcraft II
-Diablo III
-Max Payne 3 (one of the better stories ive experienced in a while)

2) I still use my Razer Diamondback Mouse, also my Logitech MX5500 Keyboard and Mouse, and my Logitech G930 7.1 Wireless surround set.
-More recently I bought a 3D TV and have been gaming on that in 3D it adds a whole new aspect to gaming a lot of fun but frame rate really takes a hit.

08-13-2012, 03:37 PM
1) WoW, WoW MoP, Diablo III

2) When "docked" I use my Razer Tarantula KB, Razer Mamba mouse, and Nostromo N52 te. When out and about thus far I've been just using the laptop "naked", though I may pick up a mobile mouse for it.

08-15-2012, 04:03 AM
1) DotA 2
2) Razer Lachesis 5600 with Steelseries QCK+ Mousemat

08-15-2012, 10:19 AM
I use a Logitech G700 for work. Great mouse - wired/wireless modes (RF interference/freedom), battery lasts but one day :(, but with 5700 dpi and 1000 Hz polling rate, I can't complain. The macro programming is pretty cool, because it is stored on the mouse, not the drivers.

08-16-2012, 04:52 PM
NBA 2K12 (most of the time)

Who needs peripherals when playing NBA 2K12! :p

08-17-2012, 09:04 AM
I have a great desktop for gaming at home. When I play on my G73JH, that means I'm not home... so only the ROG mouse.
I use included kb, screen and sound. Sometimes bundled headphones. So I actually use the bundle that came with it including the backpack!

I play FPS like Far Cry 2, Crysis 2, Deux Ex: human revolution, Assasin's creed (all), Batman, CoD, MoH, etc. Also RPG like Skyrim, RTS Total War series (all of them), civilization IV and V. I also play very old games like AOE2 and even AOE.

08-17-2012, 06:43 PM
Uhmmm!!! I play Smash Brothers Brawl on Dolphin.... =)
- Starcraft 2
- Gonna try Max Payne 3 when I get my Vertex 4 installed ;)
I use my PC for work and other things too

- Logitech G9 mouse
- Logitech Media Keyboard
- Samsung 1000W 5.1 speaker setup
- Western Digital 1 TB USB 3.0
- A rat... my best company! ;)

08-22-2012, 05:42 AM
Bought the G75VW-FS71 from Fry's about six weeks ago. I just bought The Elder Scrolls Skyrim game about three weeks ago. It is the only thing I have really done on this computer since I bought it, save for taking Cecil and John's advice on setting up backups.

I really like this computer so far, although all I have really done with it so far is play the Skyrim game. I am a level 9 mage - what a fun and addicting game!

Asus G55VW-DS71

World of Warcraft, AION, NFSOTR

Razer Death Adder, StealSeries WOW gaming mousepad, Ancient CA gaming speakers that actually sound amazing for 40 $ and yeah xD

Please make a separate support line for ROG clients. I don't feel like a valued costumer who spent over $ 1700 when I call. Amazing forums though :D

Oh, and a OS recovery CD would be nice, hate not having the option of setting up my own system :)

Brother Samael

You're a better man than I am, lol. :D

08-27-2012, 10:35 AM
1) Project Cars is starting to look incredible !

2) I dont have a steering wheel so my Xbox360 wired controller does the job :)

Add witcher 2 to your list n forget about skyrim :p It wastes soooooo much time n story wasnt so great

08-27-2012, 07:13 PM
1) Games I've thrown at it so far: L4D2, Guild Wars 2, Diablo 3, WoW, SW:TOR, Alan Wake, Orcs Must DIe 2. D3 stutters something fierce, but everything else runs flawlessly

2) Logitech g400 mouse.

Add witcher 2 to your list n forget about skyrim :p It wastes soooooo much time n story wasnt so great

I have Witcher 2 somewhere, may have to give it a try and I will NEVER forget Skyrim It's a fantastic game and I'm enjoying it immensely, I have 20 or more mods in mine which has enhanced the game play in a huge way, I restarted recently because my old game was messed up( something I did to a file I shouldn't have messed with) but the game is great plus I have recently finished the Dawn Guard story that was fun.

you should try some mods and give it a second chance.

08-28-2012, 11:11 AM
Yea i put alot of mods on skyrim man, macked it out for 300+ hours lol finnished everything n got bored. but thats only because ive played like every bethesda game and they all feel very similar. the formula is great but it just becomes repetitive after a while.

I found witcher 2 very interesting because its alot more of a mature RPG where skyrim feels very generic :s i dunno, just make sure u play witcher 2 and dont overlook it. Was suprisingly good ;)

08-28-2012, 12:26 PM
Yes the Witcher 2 was good the controls take some time getting use too again, I'd prefer to be able to hit/attack an enemy when i clcik on them and not do it the way the game makes you do it, would be a heap load easier.

08-29-2012, 01:44 PM
Come on we need to keep this on front page.

forgot to add that I use a G700 mouse from Logitech
also other games I plan on installing when I get my laptop back from RMA
Prototype 1 and 2
GTA IV (until GTA V is released)
Hitman:Absolution When It's Released)
Assassins Creed 3 (when it's released)
Sleeping Dogs (now that it's released)
Sins Of The Solar Empire Rebellion (or what ever it's called)
Dragon Age: Origins
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Empire Total War
C&C 3

And bunch of others that I can play when on the road/holidaying with no internet reception.

08-29-2012, 01:50 PM
1) What type of games do you play on your G series?
2) What is your preferred peripheral setup?
1) A mix of games...1st person shooters, MMORPG, puzzle, platformers. (My rocketdock install has Amnesia, Avadon, Bastion, Arkham Asylum, Bioshock, Braid, Cogs, Fallout:NV, Far Cry, Guild Wars 2, Left 4 Dead, Portal 2, and Team Fortress 2 on it.)
2) At home, I keep the lid closed, and run an HDMI connection to my Samsung TV, plus I use the Bluetooth Logitech MX5500 keyboard/mouse combo. I use a Logitech G930 gaming headset at home and a Bluetooth Motorola S9-HD headset while mobile.
