What version NVIDIA driver are you currently running? Have you recently attempted to upgrade your video driver?

Check out the recommendation in http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?12404-ASUS-G74SX-cannot-adjust-screen-brightness/page2. Different model, but the resolution may still apply.

Otherwise, I would uninstall the ATK Package from "Control Panel - Uninstall a program", REBOOT, then reinstall the ATK Package. Its drivers control the function keys, including those that adjust screen brightness levels.

Does Power4Gera let you control it?

If you set it to 0 in Power4Gear, do you feel it is still too bright?

You might have a bug there and it might be gpu driver related. This bug will activate full brightness during gaming and after yuo exit the game, the brightness remains 100%. All you need is to reduce the brightness again.

I had this on several G55 and G75s, but not on my current one. I use a developer driver right now, 305.67

Can you increase it?

well for starters, how about you take a picture of full brightness and then one where it is as low as it gets.
then we will actually be able to say if it works as it should, or if it is indeed broken.

The best way to fix this is go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > There will be a slider bar here for screen brightness ... Crank it down a little bit and hit apply... you need to hit apply to see it go into effect, just tweak this until you are happy.

These settings will hold without need of a third party app or driver since it's a windows option.
