I just purchased a G55VW from a local retailer and want to replace the DVD with an SSD hard drive. Is there a place I can go to buy the tray needed to do this? I cant seem to find part numbers or a place to buy one. I am still within my 15 day return period and if I find out I cannot buy parts I am going to return this and buy a custom one from the web. Any ideas?

Thanks!
Mark

There are some caddies out there that allow you to do this, however I've never actually seen one implemented in person. Typically, you wouldn't replace the DVD drive on a laptop with anything other than another optical drive, and the slots are not designed for this out of the box. A simple google search will help you find some information on it.

No, Asus makes one. Find a website that sells the G55VW and customize it. You can select the option to replace the optical drive with a drive tray and put a HD in it and do RAID. You can see the options here http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g55vwrs71-p-4474.html?wconfigure=yes.

Actually it looks like this is a generic one that may work... http://www.amazon.com/SATA-caddy-9-5mm-Universal-DVD-ROM/dp/B004Y8SGXW. Still looking.

The one you linked is pretty much what I saw when I looked it up...looks like it might work.

That is the caddy that's meant for where the hard drives normally go, so no.
