I messaged Asus and the rep told me that I could RMA the unit... No mention this being a known issue.

Is everyone who has a G75VW having the exact same problem?

What problem are you talking about? If it's things mentioned on other threads, it would seem that different people have different opinions. If you're talking about a different problem, it may actually be a unique issue.

The stuff mentioned on the other threads... Most annoyingly - using the headphone jack and the speaker staying on!

Well if you read that thread you would have found the solutions we have come up with. You can always RMA, if you haven't gone past your return period you can just exchane if for another one.

Yes, everyone does have the same problem. There are two stickies in this very sub-forum that has the solution to your problem.

Yellow, I had the same exact problem. I found a fix. Hope you enjoy.

First uninstall your VIA HD Audio Deck.
Reboot your laptop.
Download THIS (http://www.station-drivers.com/telechargement/via/audio/via_hd_audio_6.0.01.10900(www.station-drivers.com).exe) and install it.
Reboot again.

I fixed my subwoofer problem with these simple steps. It was the only issue I had with the laptop, now everything is good. G75VW FOR LIFE!

Follow this guy's instructions. It's what fixed it for most of us.
