Was in my local pawn shop two weks ago and a soldier came in and pawn(sold) his G75VW to the shop for $350. I asked the owner what he was going to sell it for, he stated most likely he would put it on fleabay. After a few minutes he asked what I would give for it. I offered $600 and he excepted it. I had to wait 12 days to get it as that is the waiting time before anything pawned can be release just incase its stolen. So as of yesterday its now home at the house.

Things I want to do

Add 2x4GB Ram.
Add SSD either intel 520 or samsung 830 maybe the kingston hyperx

I want to add a blu-ray drive in place of the dvd combo anyone know what one to add? I believe its 12.7 mm in height but want to make sure.

KcTango..Welcome to ROG.

That is a good price .. was this 'soldier' in uniform ?? or is that just what 'they' said 'they' were ?? (just curious)
12day waiting period .. thats a good rule. (where are you, country?)

There are upgrading guides in the G75/55 Section ..
as to dvd>bluRay .. Good Question. Is this doable .. Asus???

Best of Luck
Please, keep us 'posted'. (btw .. what do you think of 'her' ?).c.

Gratz on the deal. The money you saved will defintely permit some upgrading that is for sure.

People sell stuff for quick cash every day for stupid prices ... especially if they didnt pay for it themselves and got it gifted to them (it's all profit to them)... likely his family bought him that laptop and he needed the money. I likely doubt he paid 1200+ bucks for it and sold it for 300 so soon ... common sense wouldnt allow it if he did even if he was desperate.

SSD for the OS 100-250 bucks.... new ram 50 bucks.... maybe an external hard drive for 100-200 bucks... even with all that you will be under store price of base model.

Well, I pickd up a intel 520 SSD 180 GB onsale at bestbuy for $159.
My steps for the install were as follows.
1. Update recovery AI to the newest version.
2. Make Recovery DVD's for the computer. 3x DVD+DL disks.
2. Removed HHD from computer and installed SSD in its slot.
3. Used recovery DVD's that I made to install windows on SSD.
4. After install placed HHD into secondary slot and Formated to erase old windows from it.
5. Updated windows on SSD.
6. Test computer all is working great.

Question currently my computer shows the SSD as only 142GB and not the 180GB is it right?
I know my 1TB shows up as 900+/_ GB. Just want to know what others show for thier SSD 180.

My calculations indicate you should get 167 GB. Depends on how the vendor is counting over-provisioning (the spare sectors).

180 * (1000/1024)^3 = 167
