Hi i have just recently purchased my asus g55. I have read some reviews and I saw that it shows the laptop is capable of extended the ram memory to 32gb. The one i have bought has a built in 8gb. I have bought 2x 8gb ram for some reason when i install the 2 8gb ram into the slots. my asus will turn on and turn right back off. if someone has ran into this issue please help.

THANKS !!

Moved to appropriate sub-forum. Sounds like it might be bad RAM -- or else badly seated RAM. Try removing both of the sticks and determine if it works. If so, add back one and see if it boots. If so, remove that stick and add the other. If each work individually, try adding both and make certain that the RAM is properly seated. If it still doesn't work, return the RAM.

You should check your manual to see if it supports 32GB. I just checked Asus's website and it says 16GB for the G55VW. Maybe yours is a different model?

And which RAM did you buy? Name, model, frequency? :p

hey chino i have done what u told me and yes i believe your correct. i looked on this sit e

http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/ASUS_G55VW_DS71/G55VWDS71/11594680/

it shows that the max extended is 16gb. =[ maybe i sha'll return it and buy . the one that can handle up to 32gb is the

ASUS G55VW RS71.

just wondering. is it worth having 32gb of ram just out curiosity. all i do is mainly play games alt + tab

No lol. 4GB is all you need. You can get 8GB if you just want to "future proof" and Alt+Tabbing while gaming and doing ALOT of other stuff. Anything over 8GB is overkill for gaming. lol

The DS71 can handle 32gb. I have 20 in mine right now. You're configuration is wrong, or the BIOS does not like the stick you used. DDR3 1600 1.35 volts works for me.

g55 supports up to 32GB RAM. i have 24GB currently. here is how to get the right RAM (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?23929-Adding-RAM-to-G75&p=168646&viewfull=1#post168646) and a link to a video clip to make sure they are seated properly. many failed RAM upgrades were due to improper installation of RAM.

Check your RAM types with CPU-Z. It will tell you everything. You need to match frequency and definitely voltage.
