Hello again ROG'rs

I am wanting to do a 3D or video card based challenge next.

Two things

What I would like you to do guys is post up who would be participating and what VGA's you are going to be using. The reason why I need this information is because not all cards are equal. So some kind of handicap factor will need to be figured out.

That takes time and effort to work out, many hours searching results and doing computations to try and make it balanced, you never succeed in getting it perfect but....

So post up what cards you will be using guys.

And which of the benchmarks you guys would like to do.

As you know, I like starting things off. LOL I'll be using a GTX 670. Which benchmark you ask? Definately Unigine lol. Or any other GPU benchmark that doesn't include points for the CPU. xD

well here i would say its not gona be equal, some have 1 card, some 2 and some 3 cards, and there might be those who have 4 cards.

yes kkn that is correct and as such there will have to be a handicap, so 2 3 or 4 cards will be-able to play fair with those who have only 1.

690/7990 (or dual gpu cards) in one class
580/680/6970/7970 in one class
570/670/6950/7950 in one
660,7870, and so on.. in one

3d mark vantage (mark 11 require dx 11), and i dont think everyone has it..

And heavens?

BTW Heaven is a great bench! I like it even more than vantage.

PS I can share vantage advanced license key

The advantage of vantage is that there are some presets they are pretty popular on hwbot.
But most popular (performance) has 1280*1024 resolution, it's a joke for such VGA's.
And yes, it has CPU affection (however we can use GPU score only)
Also vantage is DX10.

So I vote for heaven 3.0
DX11, a lot of settings, pure gpu, and it's free)

I'm in. I'll use a GTX 680, although I have been eying the 7970 Matrix Platinum, damn that's a nice piece of hardware.
Viz,
Since you asked
You pick the bench, Vantage, 3D11, Heaven, I believe you should have the competition with one GPU only with some parameters like you did in Pi, I have learned the value of the pcie lane switches on the ROG boards, then towards the end have a bonus run for all out anything goes so we can contribute to global warming
And thanks for taking you personal time to put on these competitions, although I didn't participate in the Pi challenge, I still watched and learned a lot.

Count me in! Air cooled GTX570 or GTX 680......The benchmark I'd leave to you HiVizMan you can probably choose one that leads to the need for most tweaking and hence learning......If you can come up with some formula to level the BIOS flashing multi card benching pros with the mere mortals who like their waranty OK if not I don't mind really...... the true benchers deserve their scores....I'll join in anyway for the fun and learning. Maybe single card is the way to go but then that would deprive us of seeing some monumental multicard scores which would be great fun to watch!...

I can provide a "benchmark" of a stock GTX 660m in a stock G75VW-BBK5 (haven't OC-ed yet), if you don't mind me playing Tail-end Charlie again to learn more.

& as to the benchmark package, as long as my system can run it, & it's user-friendly enough for me to use, the choice of the actual software package I'll leave up to the group to decide. I have used Furmark in the past, but can't remember if it does 3D (& my stock system doesn't have the 3D viewing package)...

Guys I'm sorry for such offtop but maybe someone could help me:
I'm looking for EK waterblocks for my reference 7970. If someone know where I can buy two of them - let me know. (Especially in Europe)
It's always a big trouble to get something like this in Russia.

Thanks and sorry:rolleyes:

I'd be in, 680 SInlge or 2x SLI, 460's Single or 2xSLI.

Vantage is very finicky compared to 11, being software dependent, you should have differenct clases, IMO, or you will ahve people trying to run 3dmark01with a voodoo card. (not that there is anything wrong with that.)

HiViz, will you be determining which benchmark we use, or are you trying to find some way to compare apples-to-apples if we all do "our own thing" here?

Personally, I'd think it easier on you to just pick one ("majority rules"?) & then just post us a link.

(P.S. if $$ was no object, I'd find a way to break my G75VW, "just for fun...& knowledge!" ;) )

I wanted to hear what the guys all think, and then once those who wish to express their thoughts have done I will think about it and post up the challenge by Wed or Thurs this week. I want to start on Sat 24th November and run until the 24 December.

What I can say is that the challange will be similar to the Super PI one. And will be made up of two benchmarks with some restrictions to what can be done. Currently I am working on a handicap system to get to the point were we can compare apples with apples. :D

Not easy I can promise you.

I'm definetely interesed. Vantage sounds good since I got two 7970s to play with, but only on air cooling. I also still got my reference 4870x2, but it will probably reach 100 degrees withing 10 seconds so :D .

Low Clock 3DMark01 Challenge!

Do I know you????? :)

Certainly a man after my own heart. Yeah that is for sure on the cards for a challenge but not with this one.

When it comes to 3DMark tweaking skill, it will only shine with 3DMark01 :D

Yes and no, there is quite a bit of tweaking that goes into the other benchmarks these days, not sure how much goes into Vantage mind but looking at some of the scores v clocks there must be some skills involved. :o

However 2001SE is no longer a VGA benchmark, well nor are most of the older one either, but a CPU and DDR3 benchmark. And you are spot on that is the blue ribbon event for VGA without doubt.
