As you all seem to be experts I wonder if you could help. I am retired and have started playing around with Trainz 12. What I am after is info on which laptops will run this in high quality. It does not have to be all singing and dancing as I will not be playing your type of games and I don't mind if you know of a decent 2nd user one I could get hold of.

well i have to ask what sort of laptop do you have, and what sort are you after?
and how mutch are you willing to spend on one?
and the specs of the game is not too demanding so.
Minimum

2GB RAM
Pentium D 3.4GHz (or equivalent)
nVidia GeForce 7200 / 128MB (or equivalent)
15GB free hard drive space

Recommended
Windows Vista / Windows 7 (64 bit)
2GB RAM
Core 2 Duo (or equivalent)
nVidia GeForce 8600 (or equivalent)
15GB free hard drive space

I am currently running a Compaq Presario CQ56
AMD Athlon(tm) II P360 Dual-core processor
4GB memory
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250,
I think the problem is my integrated graphics, but as the spec is for a desktop I am finding it confusing as to which laptop.

I will use it for general internet use, and downloading photos from my camera. The most intensive use will be Trainz 12.
Looking at £500 max. Does not have to be a new one.

hi Lorraine, i found this laptop and i think it's within your budget, and the specs are quite right for your usage imho (ASUS X53E Intel® Core™ i5 8GB RAM Entertainment/GAMING Laptop (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ASUS-X53E-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-Entertainment-GAMING-Laptop-/110916559294?pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item19d32461be)). it's a refurbished unit (i'm not sure that if the screen size is what you're looking for).

perhaps others can help to look for a new one for you with a better price.

edit:
1. you can look for other sellers here (http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Laptops-Netbooks-/175672/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=ASUS+X53E). i compared the units, and thought that would be the best among the offers.

2. here is another list for a different model (http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=ASUS+K55VD&_sacat=175672&_odkw=ASUS+n55sl&_osacat=175672&_from=R40). they're mostly new units, slightly above your budget (i mean those at 500+). please pay attention to the processor; i5 CPU is faster than i3 CPU.

Moved thread to better location. That laptop would be good, provided the seller is being perfectly honest. Not that I think he's lying, but some people do. The only bad thing I'd say about the laptop is the 1366x768, but you'd have to pay more to beat that. Go ahead and get it. :)
