Looks like the G74 forum is gone already? There use to be a great thread that walked through a clean install ... how to install Windows seeing as we never got a copy from Asus, the list of drivers required, etc. Anyone know where that went? tia

Here's a link to search results that'll give you all you need: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&tbo=d&site=&source=hp&q=Rog+Asus+g74sx+windws+7+clean+install+driver+lis t&oq=Rog+Asus+g74sx+windws+7+clean+install+driver+li st&gs_l=mobile-gws-hp.12...9318.85380.0.86953.55.50.2.3.3.0.179.5254. 27j23.50.0.les%3Behyp%2Ca%3D1%2Cb%3D5000%2Cn%3D5%2 Ct%3D2%2Cr%3D5..0.0...1ac.1.eArwgyvYfNw

Out of that list, http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?9051-Asus-G74SX-Clean-Install-Clear-ups-and-Doubts/page6 is probably a good place to start.

Thanks dstrakele, good start yes. Everything seems to be outdated as far as links and drivers I found so far ... kind of frustrating to say the least.
Also, is there no way to get "notifications" to replies you receive? I didn't even know you had replied to my question ... had to try find it. thanks

There was a typo in the second thread I referenced: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?9051-Asus-G74SX-Clean-Install-Clear-ups-and-Doubts/page6 gives you a driver list. To get links to the most recent drivers, I recommend you monitor the "G75, G55 & G46 Series Notebooks" section of this forum. Links to the latest drivers are frequently posted there. http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?26114-nVIDIA-GeForce-Driver-310.70&country=&status= is an example. The video driver is one that will have the most effect on the performance of your system if you are a gamer. And if you possess the ablility to search using a Browser, there is nothing to prevent you from visiting the device manufacturer's web sites to grab the very latest drivers yourself.

Running the very latest drivers is not always the best. Some may cause problems on your system. So it is good to create a System Restore Point prior to installing a driver, so it can be easily and completely removed if you encounter problems. By monitoring the new driver announcement threads, you can see if other users are experiencing any driver issues with the new releases.

For Forum Notifications, click on "Settings" at the top right of this page, then select "General Settings" from the left pane. Under "Messaging and Notification" you'll find "Default Thread Subscription Mode:". Click the downdrop arrow to change "Do not subscribe" to the type of notification you desire. Then when you subscribe to a thread, you can get notifications by email or in your control panel on this forum.
