View Full Version : Xonar Phoebus installation advice needed PLEASE...

Tomorrow i will be installing my new sound card and was told not to use the CD the card comes with and instead download the new ones from Asus - Version for Windows 8. The driver size is only 55,1 (MBytes) so my question is if i avoid using the CD and download these drivers do they include the software such as the Xonar Audio Centre and Dolby Theatre V4?

Also is there any advantage to installing the card in an Express 16 slot, i'm currently using one for my graphics card and don't really want to use the spare Express 16 slot because it will use the same bandwidth. Can i install the sound card in my Express x8 slot instead of the x16 slot?

Will there be any difference.

Lastly does the card support EAX and DTS?

Thanks for any replies in advance.

Use the ones off the asus website. Also remove any other sound card drivers you have installed. Disable the onboard in the bios also before placing your new sound card in. The sound card will work in either slot fine. There will be no difference between the 4x, 8x or 16x lane for that sound card. Yes is supports EAX and DTS fine. Here is a full review of the sound card. Hopefully the new driver will be out before you get your sound card. Thanks

My card is coming tomorrow so i doubt the new driver will be out, although the one they released for windows 8 doesn't say
BETA next to it like the Windows 7 driver does.

So Version for Windows 8 contains the Xonar Audio Software and the Dolby Theatre V4? I wasn't sure because it only
says audio driver. i'm used to using Creative sound cards this is my first time trying out Asus but usually with the Creative cards you download the audio driver and audio launcher software separate to each other.

Also thanks for your advice, i'm going to first boot up my machine and change the motherboard settings and then i will reboot and reinstall Wndows 8 by formatting and deleting my hard drive data so everything will be fresh.

New driver is out, it is still beta. But it updates the firmware also and is 130meg. Fixing to go test it. Glad they released it though, now off to test it out. Fresh format is a great thing. Takes around 8 minutes are less now on a usb flash drive. Thanks
