View Full Version : Fresh Windows 8 Install on New SSD

Hello everyone,

I had a couple questions about installing a new SSD and Windows 8 in my G75. My model has the 1TB 5400 HD and the second HD slot is empty. I would like to put an SSD in there and use my Windows 8 upgrade offer ($14.99) to install Windows 8 on the new SSD.

My logic is that the direct download for Windows 8 will be bloatfree as opposed to the BestBuy version I currently have. Also, it's 15 bucks to get a new copy of Windows 8. My endstate is to have my OS and Guild Wars 2 on the SSD and use the spinner for storage.

If there is an easier way to do all of this, by all means let me know. I am no guru to say the least, but can complete most basic functions on the computer.

first, create a set of recovery dvds/isos with ai recovery.

the key thing here is to get the valid windows 8 key and the iso (http://www.intowindows.com/download-windows-8-iso-from-microsoft-using-product-key/). the rest should be pretty straight forward (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?25835-G75.-How-to-install-SSD-and-Win7-on-it&p=190820&viewfull=1#post190820).

I'm in a similar situation here but my G75VW is the G75VW-BHI7N07 from Best Buy that already comes with Windows 8. For the life of me, I cannot find the AI Recovery utility at all anywhere on the computer. I've tried looking under the download section for the G75VW for both W7 as well as W8 and cannot find this on there at all. My HDD is also the 1TB 5400 drive and I'm interested in swapping out to an SSD as well.

@tungchan007, the new models with windows 8 do not have ai recovery (this tool is phasing out). the factory restore function has changed to this (http://support.asus.com/repair.aspx?no=605&SLanguage=en):
How do I recover my system to factory state in Windows 8?

- Place your mouse in the top or lower-right corner of your display, or press Windows+C shortcut. The Charms will appear. Click Settings Charm.
- Click "Change PC settins" at the bottom of your display.
- On the left side menu, click "General."
- Scroll down on the right side, and click "Get started" button underneath "Remove everything and reinstall Windows."

with windows 8, you can create a system image for backup purposes.

for a fresh install with windows 8 on an SSD, you can get some ideas on the process here (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?25612-Can-anyone-explain-to-me-the-steps-of-installing-a-SSD-to-a-G75vw-Thank-you..&p=188946&viewfull=1#post188946).
