Hi, I wanted to upgrade my ram but I don't know or I'm not sure
what is the supported speed of the unit. When i use the crucial memory advisor, it says I can use
PC3-12800 and PC3-10600. But when I use their system scanner, it says I can only use up to
PC3-10600. Any help? Is there a guide on how to remove the stick aside from the one empty slot, and the 2pcs 2gb near the hdd?

System specs:
intel i7-740qm 1.73Hz
intel hm55
6gb memory (not sure if 12800 or 10600)
gtx460M 1.5gb gddr5

P.S. What is the maximum capacity for RAM for my system? I've been searching the web but they all say different things, others say 8, another says 16 and so on

You can use 10600 (1333 MHz). The first-gen i7's can support 1066 or 1333, so I recommend 1333 because is faster (marginally) and cheaper (significantly).

Yes but can my laptop support the 1600 ones?

No. They will run at 1333 speeds. A little more detail:
first-gen dual-cores (i3's, i5's, and i7-620M) have an integrated graphics chip that cannot handle ram speeds higher than 1066. If you put something faster in, it will down-clock back to 1066 speeds. The quad-core i7 (740QM) does not have this graphics chip, so it can run at the speed of the memory controller (1333). Anything faster downclocks to 1333.

ok thanks. One more thing, there are contradicting info i found everywhere in the internet. Some say the max ram for my unit is 8gb, some say 16gb. What really is the max because I'm looking forward to upgrade to at least 12gb.

With quad-core, you can pull off 16 GB. Dual-core chips don't handle quad-slot (not quad-channel) memory configs. 4x4 GB should work.
