I have a G53SX:

GFX: 7.1, 7.1

@Andili, the bottleneck of your system is the hdd. put a ssd in. unleash the power of your beast.

Hi rewben,

the ssd is next on my list.
which ssd would you recommend?

Andili

ah sorry stupid question, i just noticed the specs of your laptop.

rewben

it's fine, Andili. it's not a stupid question. there are a number of good choices with a fair price, actually.

intel 520, samsung 830, and crucial m4 are just my preferences.

Yea those ones are perfect. I personally am using a OCZ Vertex 4 256GB SSD. Does the job for me :D made my G-series lightning fast ! It makes you forget what loading times mean :P

Thanks guys

I will take your advice and probably get me the Vertex or the Samsung ssd within the next few weeks.

if you had enough budget, get the 240-256gb. for now, in the range of offerings in any brand, this particular range has the best performance ratios (higher read/write/iops; this is based on my own observations from technical specifications), compared to smaller or larger ones.

Yea, basically the new SSD's have this feature where if you have less than half of the SSD being utilized, you gain huge performance boosts. Also a general rule with SSD's is that the larger the better read/write speeds, but some do say that the mid-level 256gb's are the best :) good luck

I've figured out how to completely kill Aero, and be EXACTLY like Win7, and would like to post a guide, but it involves illegal software... think that's be OK if I don's post links?

@BNaughty, i understand it's for educational purposes, but i think it's not appropriate to do it here lol!

If it involves 'illegal' anything .. NO. Not here. .... but the kind thought of helping is appreciated.

Thanks, @chrsplmr, excellent way to reply. I'll second that. Thanks for the kind offer of a tutorial, but nothing illegal. If you can find a way to do it legally, definitely please post! :)
