I tried to do this Bios Update on Sunday, And it did not work for me!!! I started to update and when it finsihed updating all it did was restart and it would not leave the F2 screen??? Called ASUS, took it to a PC shop and they told me that some thing went wrong when I started to update the Bios. Well Monday I shipped to ASUS, overnight, Just got off the phone with them and they told me that my mother broad is fried and they cant explain why it happened, if all I was doing was a Bios update? They said that they will get in touch with me later on today to see if they are sending me a new one or fixing this one??

I have the G75VW-BHI7N07

Thanks for this that's the same model I have. I learned something about BIOS while in these forums: if it isn't broke don't fix it.

Yep.

It's not just an ASUS thing either.

BIOS upgrades are rarely worth the risk.

I usually sit back & relax when I hear of any kind of update. I wait to see the experience others have when applying it, while I do some further research into just what great & wonderful things the update is suppose to give me. If it doesn't offer some ming-numbingly awesome new capability, I wait. Some might say I'm suffering for not doing all the updates immediately, & then something like htis thread comes along...& I end up asking myself "Who's suffering now?"

Exactly... Bios update is really not needed for most of you guys.. Only for the Locked G75 or G55's with the 660M its needed if you want OC past the limits.. Other than that you DONT NEED IT ! Jus chill and use ur laptop instead of wasting time updating stuff that will not affect you...

@MrWolf: Wait .222 unlocks the OC limits of the GTX660m on the G75, or are you referring to the custom BIOS?

rewben, When I bought the notebook it had Windows 8, but I went back to windows 7???? So it did not have Windows * when I tried to do the bios update.

if you're running 7, have you checked if the secure boot control is disabled and launch csm is enabled in the bios? because i suspect you're running into the similar issue as this one (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?25694-G75-boot-problem&p=197913&viewfull=1#post197913).

Yeah before I changed the OS, I called them to see if that would void any warrantiy on the notebook. They told me no that it would not and also I made create a case number just incase some thing like this would happen??

i think it's better to just ask them to check the bios options for you.

You did not try to do the bios update while booted into windows did you?

Most/all of us veterans recommend rebooting and only doing BIOS updates when outside of windows operating system ...

I agree!
Use a usb thumb drive, and use "easy flash" in BIOS

I don't "BIOS flash" a MB if I'm not experiencing any problems.
But I guess some just update for the sake of having the latest, even if you need it or not.
why in the world would you fix something that's not broke?
The best advice is to just sit back and wait awhile to see if there's any problems that come to the surface with a new "BIOS update" .

Asus needs to "fully test" these updates before release!
To many people are ending up "bricked"!

Just don't do it!!!!!

Us reseller have been complaining about this as well.

We make sure to remove that stupid utility from all of the units we sell (which takes time) along with the ASUS updater.

I've had a few RMA cases because the end user attempts to apply a BIOS update using the WinFlash tool and bricks the unit.

Very frustrating for us because the enduser will blame us for the BIOS failure :X

But, if you want to install a ssd drive in a G75VW-BHI7N07, must you update the BIOS? - besides the update of the AL RECOVERY UTILITY (1Tb HD) to make a recovery disk of the win8?
I read it everywhere in this forum.

As an aside guys, am I to assume that if you have flashed via windows, and it boots ok, that it must have been sucessful?

I flashed mine about 2 months ago via AI-suite.

Yeah you're fine, I flashed via windows using whatever utility ASUS had up on the downloads section and it went fine....
