Hello All,

I have 50/25 Verizon FIOS with a Westell router. Connected to this router I have a Linksys D600 E2500 Wireless N Router connected to that. When I connect to the E2500 while its set to G mode, I get 20 - 25 Mbps download on Speedtest. If I set the wireless mode to N, I only get around 1-2 Mbps down and 10-12 Mbps up. This is with the latest drivers from the Asus support site. Any ideas why?

Thanks

Verizon supplies a Westell Wireless Router/modem. This device is not an N router. To resolve this, I purchased the E2500 and connected it to one of the LAN ports on the Westell so it now acts like a wireless access point. I turned the wifi off on the Westell. On the E2500 I changed the mode from N to G to test. On my wife's laptop, an Asus K55A, she can connect to the wifi on both N and G modes. This leads me to believe there is some issue with my machine.

what if you set your new router to serve N only?

That is when I only get the 1-2 Mbps. My wife's works fine.

ah sorry didn't read it properly; have you done this: device manager > atheros wifi's properties > power management > uncheck the option where it says allow the computer to turn off this device to save power or something like that?

also, check your power plan if the wireless adapter option has been set to maximum performance only.

That option is unchecked and it is on max performance.

are you on w7 or 8?

edit: if you're on w8, you can try updating your wifi driver to this (http://www.station-drivers.com/telechargement/atheros/wifi/atheros_wifi_10.0.0.221(www.station-drivers.com).exe). i'm using the same driver on w8:

15359

15360

I updated to that driver and I am still having the same issue.

Take the router out of 40 mhz only use 20 mhz and it will work use n only

Wireless N don't work very fast on the 2.4 network.

Then you will get 72

It is set at 20MHz only. It connects just fine and shows that it should be getting the 72 Mbps on the wifi status window. However, it does not get those speeds, even when doing internal transfers.

Does it disconnect and reconnect or the internet speed is continous for hours?

I haven't used it continuously for hours. That speed is too slow. I just switched back to my G network which works fine.

what speed are u getting

MrBeer

72 Mbps is only about 4.5MB/s tranfer file from one computer to the laptop
over the network.
do a speed test on the internet.

Im talking about the default atheros wireless card on your g75. Does it have any issues where it disconnects or is it continuous and no issues?

I have a new G55 same wireless card no problem here . on all day installed win7 driver and bf3 right now.

It is no 5GHz speeds but a little faster then 54g no much .

Yes. It cuts out randomly.

@jkesler42, the driver is working fine :/

however, if you're on w8, there is a higher chance that w8/w8 driver doesn't work nicely.

edit: you can search for similar threads in the forum and find out more (goto google, type 'site:rog.asus.com wireless drop' without quotes)

I have the G75VW it haves the same card as the G55, apparently the card is single band it’s only capable of using 2.4GHZ. I have a dual band router and my sister’s Sony vaio does recognize both bands.

I knew it. Typical of Asus to keep putting them crappy Atheros wireless cards on their high end G series laptops. I wish they would start putting intel centrino in there or make it user upgradable w/o voiding the warranty.
