Full Review finally from notebookcheck. They talked about how good the cooling is but the screen is really below average and has the same srgb/gamut coverage of the M14x R2 with only 45% color gamut or 62% SRGB coverage which is not even close to the G55/G75 displays where it close to covering the SRGB spectrum and around 65-70% color gamut. The contrast and black lvls are also not as good as the g55/g75.

Thanks for the link! Notebookcheck does some of the best reviews that I have seen, focusing more on the testable technical rather than the fuzzy feelings.

The M14x R2 ... also costs $500-$600 More ... which is No Small Point.

Not to mention .. point after point the comparison is
not Oranges to Oranges .. The G46 IS quite a Peach for $1000
... and makes me warm and 'fuzzy' (hehhehee).imho.c.

Yes, and when ASUS puts a 900p display or better in the G46, there will be no comparison between the two. The ASUS has better cooling, better graphics, and possibly better battery life.

yes but any idea of when they will put a better display?

Well resellers from what I've read, they will receive the G46 sometime Q2 of 2013. So I'm guessing around that time they should have the upgraded panels and more customize-ability. HIDEvolution only gets them because from my understanding they buy them from Best Buy. I'd wait if you can for the new 700M series GPU's and Haswell CPU's. The upgraded panel 1600x900 is something I look forward on getting in the future assuming everything is compatible

I also heard than ASUS will include the new wifi so if they really wait for a major upgrade we can think than this new rev won't be out before june.
If only i could wait :/

The G46VW is alredy in sale from few salers as exemple:

This include a bag, a mouse and an external optical drive

I think its perfect the way it is, under 1000.00$ price point is really the only way to go for me personally but what would make it even be better is if they could add some stuff and still keep the price under 1k like a 32 gigabyte mSATA and the 900p screen also a quad core i7 3630QM, that would make it a really super deal just like the Y400/Y500 from lenovo.

I don't believe the Lenovo has the 900p screen. Also, the Lenovo doesn't have the GPU caliber that the ASUS does. Oh, and nobody has cool cooling like ASUS lol :p.

Seriously, just slap in a SSD and you're in heaven! Unless you want to wait for the upgrades :p

I happen to have a couple crucial m4 128gb ssd sitting upstairs..how many bays are in these? I'd imagine just one judging by the size and not doing any reseach, if that's the case i'd like to have a lot more capacity then 128.

Speaking of the hdd swapping, is there a tutorial/youtube video on how exactly to do it? I hear it's not as simple as it is on most laptops, and I have never swapped one in a laptop either, so I'm a bit hesitant.

There are quite a few pictures going around with circles on screws to remove and all but it almost looked like a whole disassemble of the laptop. If it really takes dismantling everything just to get to the hdd to switch, then I guess I'll just leave the crappy 5400rpm instead.

Only one :( Then again, it probably wouldn't be a 14" if it had two...

I guess you can take what you can get, as mine isn't a full on Desktop Replacement, i'll go with the smaller size and take what I can get lol.

Yep, only one. I can tell you it's hard to save up for a 500GB SSD, but that's the lowest I'm going to put in. Even though it (the current 750GB HDD) is slower, I can't justify a drop from 750GB to less than 500GB.

I wonder,there's no DVD-Rom in G46 ??
