Hey everyone. I'm looking into upgrading my G73JH-RBBX05. Yes, I know I am late in the game, but I would like to know what to upgrade the graphics card to. As well as the screen (matte finish of course) and any other little fixes anyone knows of. I will be posting pictures of what my computer currently has so everyone has an understanding of what I'm running. Also my CPU socket is 989 rPGA.

I'm actually sitting on 12GB. The motherboard max is 16GB but the CPU only uses max 8GB. I've been reading you can change out the proccesor for the i7-920, but I have not had time to comfirm it.

Upgrade CPU to the highest non-XM version, which is 860QM or something like that. The XM chips are 55 Watts rather than 45 like the others, and it affects the computer (no Turbo mode, etc). Besides, the performance difference between the two CPUs is so little that at the price of a 920XM, you could be well on your way to a newer ROG laptop that would be faster still.

If 8 GB is all the system will handle, and you want more, look into a new computer. New ROG machines are ~$1500-$2000 depending on the options, and a new 920XM is ~$1000.

As for GPUs, I have heard that some people are able to stuff 7970M's into the G73JH, which is a really fast GPU. If it works, and you can get one of the right 7970M for a good price, that may be an upgrade worth considering.

Do you have the 1600 X 900 screen? If so, upgrading to the 1920 X 1080 screen is a good upgrade that is not that hard. I changed the screen on my G73 (because of psod, it was already 1080p)

What you need the most is a SSD as your system drive. I have 7.1 Windows WEI because of my SSD. (Intel M25x 160 GB) That will give you the most bang for your buck (easy to do too! ;) )
