well it seems like you cant make any use of the restore partition on the windows 8 version of the g75 laptop so people wanting to restore to factory default are in bad luck

for machines preloaded with w8 the available option is this (http://support.asus.com/repair.aspx?no=605&SLanguage=en):

How do I recover my system to factory state in Windows 8?

Solution
- Place your mouse in the top or lower-right corner of your display, or press Windows+C shortcut. The Charms will appear. Click Settings Charm.
- Click "Change PC settins" at the bottom of your display.
- On the left side menu, click "General."
- Scroll down on the right side, and click "Get started" button underneath "Remove everything and reinstall Windows."

In the event you botched your whole hdd and the windows 8 itself use my tip here (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?27777-Windows-8-Core-x64-Retail-RTM-iso-for-reinstalling&country=&status=)on reinstalling Win 8 from scratch, the old fashioned way.
