I have the G73-JH model with the Intel I7-720 processor and was wondering what the max RAM was on it. While this may seem like a rather stupid question, since the information on the G73-JH page clearly states that the max RAM is only 8GB other websites with the same motherboard claim that the motherboard maxes at 16GB of RAM. I was wondering if someone could tell me if the information on the ASUS page is out of date or not, so I'll know if I am wasting my money on the extra RAM or not.

Note: I'm well aware that the RAM in my computer probbably isn't my bottleneck, all the same I would like to know if the RAM would work in my computer.

the spec says 16GB max...But like Alienware that has 4 mem slots that says it will support 32GB...so Im pretty sure the JH JW SW SX models will support 32GB as well..

has anyone tried putting in more than 16gb ram? Do you get single 8gb ram sticks?

8GB sticks are obscenely expensive but should be on market already and, according to intel specs, the memory controller from the cpu should be able to deal with them.
So yea, 32Gb mite be useable provided you use the appropriate OS as in x64 W7 Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate. Home Premium for example is limited to 16GB ram.

You should be able to use 8GB sticks with i7 units, not i5.

Memory specs are the same. The only difference is max frequency which is 1333 for i7 and 1066 for i5

But isn't 32gb overkill?

Yes. Most of the things that can utilize that much memory are also very CPU intensive. A laptop CPU just couldn't keep up with those use cases. Still, it's nice to have a theoretical limit far above what you'll ever use just so that you know it will never be an issue.

According to that page, my G73SW-A1 shouldn't have 16GB and have 25 GB/s memory speeds, but it does. :)

I'm just trying to say that specs and limits have changed since they made the data in that database.
