hey thanks for the support,

you welcome guys but unfortunately i don't own a G55 yet or else i would open that up too lol. I'm glad if this can help you guys upgrade your system. If someone does something crazy like I7 extreme please post that when you got i7 extreme running in your Asus ROGs =)

I came across a very good priced I7 3820qm, anyone know if the power wattage and everything will fit? I really want to grab it and install it on the G46

HIDevolution is selling them as an optional upgrade, so you should in theory be just fine! My i7 3630qm runs quiet and cool, and that's bumping from the stock 35w to a 45w cpu... My guess is you'd be fine. One gentleman did notice and comment that we are missing the third power phase on the motherboard, but I'm not sure what that means in reality as far as power and support of the faster/higher wattage cpu's.

hey thanks for the info, how did your 3630qm run? benchmarks are same as those G55 ones right? i will look up what the third power phase does before getting it installed =) i don't want to risk anything since we will definitely void the warranty by swapping out the cpu, good to know this mate, thank you again

Yep, performance is exactly as expected, over twice the physics score in 3DMark11. Cooling is not an issue, no throttling issues, runs at the turbo speeds just fine. Temps run in the upper 30's idling to about 82C under full load stress test and benchmarking. Games are running in the 60-70'sC typically. I'd assume any 45W CPU would run similar to this.... I'm not sure exactly what the third power phase will matter, but I'd definitely investigate before paying for a really higher end or 55W CPU. Good luck!

Here's a disassembly video of the G55 we made a while back. There is a break in the middle of the video but hopefully it gives you a general idea of the process.
