Win8 or G75VW Problem?

I have this weird lock-up that has been happening recently and I don't know if it is the laptop or Win8.

The computer will get locked on a blank screen with the work "files" in the top left corner (see attachment).

I can use alt-tab to change application but I cannot select the applications using the touch pad.

Everything works properly when I reboot the laptop.

Any ideas?

Its obviously a software issue, but when does this occur when you are working on a spreadsheet or after you have been away from the computer for a while or coming out of sleep mode?

how to duplicate it? what is situation occur? do you have install any 3rd parts sw?
