hello everyone,
So I was using my computer as normal one night and turned it off to go to sleep. In the morning I powered on my computer and the screen wouldn't come on. I thought it might have been a loose cable so I took it apart and reseated everything. Still nothing came on. I took my hard drive out and put it into an HP dv7 and used that temporarily. I researched that if you remove the mobo battery that it should fix the problem. it in fact did fix the problem so I put my hard drive back into the g73jh. It powered on and it was trying to reinstall the drivers for the hd5870. It gave me the catalyst could not start thing because in the dv7 I installed different drivers in to use with that laptop. The g73jh would do this thing when I turn it off and on it would show so I would have to pull the plug and wait a bit. When I plugged it back in to start it would automatically turn on and off 3 times before the Asus logo came up. I tried installing all different drivers for it but it would no longer detect the HD 5870 and only say standard VGA device. I decided the best way to fix the problem was to reinstall windows. But even after reinstalling windows the boot hiccup and the undetected graphics card is still occurring. I did update the bios to 213. And I tried to update vbios but it kept saying adapter not found. Can anyone help me?

1) If you enter the BIOS and choose to restore defaults, then Save & Exit, can your graphics card be detected?

2) You may need to install a very early (version 10.x) ATI driver for installation to succeed without a vbios update. Once the graphics card is detected, I suspect the vbios update should install and then allow you to install the recent AMD drivers. I don't own a G73JH, so more knowledgeable folks will hopefully offer better suggestions.

3) @KSpartan encountered a similar issue, discussed in http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/601235-g73-graphic-card-not-detected-after-using-catalyst-desinstall-button-need-help-6.html. After trying a number of things, he had to "restore the Windows partition" to finally resolve the problem.

You said you reinstalled Windows, but did you actually delete the OS partition and recreate it before the installation?

yep, if you press f9 in BIOS post, is it into restore mode? i think you will unplug battery and adapter and wait for a while, than plug itto, power on, also can be flash again BIOS than load default and save & exit.
if you try all of sw way, it is not help, i suggest you send back to service center to check it.

I did restore defaults, but that did not help with anything. I will try to find an old version of the ati driver and see if that will work. I actually found that thread while in my search for an answer, however it was after I deleted all the partitions on the drive and reformatted the entire drive to install windows fresh and new. I thought that fresh install would solve the issue but it did not. Is there any way i can get that recovery partition back?

The only options when I press F9 is that I can choose what OS to boot from( which is only windows 7) and the memory diagnostic test. Because I cleared all partitions before I reinstalled windows, there are no recovery options that come with asus.
